New Plant Conservation Course by ACS Distance Education

MEDIA RELEASE- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Plant Conservation Course

Plants are the backbone of the world we occupy and the lives we live; and yet human activity threatens their very existence. Over 25% of all plant species are endangered.

The protection of plants and their environments is an exceptionally important tool in fighting climate change and maintaining sustainable and productive ecosystems everywhere on earth.

This new course brings together an understanding of different ways that plants can be conserved from legislative policy action to environmental protection and restoration.  It is intended as professional development for people working with plants, the environment and conservation: horticulturists, environmental scientists, biologists, legislators and others.

The course is extensive and self-paced, taking 100 hours to complete. It is split into the following nine lessons:

1.            Scope and Nature of Plant Conservation

2.            Policy, Legislation and Organisations

3.            Protection and Preventing Degradation

4.           Restoration of Damaged Ecosystems

5.            Restoring Populations

6.           Genetic Conservation

7.            Ecosystem Conservation

8.            Community Action

9.           Adjusting to Environmental Change

This course was developed by a team of plant science and conservation experts working together across both Australia and the UK including:
