WINNING STORIES TURNED INTO FURRY TALES PICTURE BOOK TO HELP CATS IN NEED

Announcement posted by Esencia Communications 28 Jun 2022

The Cat Protection Society of Victoria has released its first ever illustrated children’s book, featuring the two winning stories from a nation-wide competition, The Furry Tales Children’s Story Competition, it ran last year.

The Furry Tales Children’s Picture Book features two stories; The Very Best of Friends by Sue Moossajee, and A Cat’s Story by Adelaide Hogan, and proceeds from its sale will help the Society continue its work in caring for and rehoming cats and kittens in need.

Adelaide, aged eleven, took out the junior category of the competition, for her heart-warming story based on a cat that lives in her neighbourhood. Told from the perspective of Coco, a young street-cat, the reader follows the challenges Coco faces as she transitions from street-cat to shelter cat, to the beloved companion of a young woman. Seeing her picture book come to life is all the more special to Adelaide because she has dyslexia.

Taking out the Open Age Category for her deeply moving story ‘The Very Best of Friends’ was Sue Moossajee, a primary-school teacher from Preston in Victoria. Based on a true story, ‘The Very Best of Friends’ tells the incredibly touching story of losing a beloved family feline, and then unexpectedly finding love and connection once again through animal rescue.

The two stories have now been turned into a beautifully illustrated children’s book.

A Cat’s Story has been illustrated by Leah Lux Tame, an artist, photographer, educator, and cat mum.  The Very Best of Friends has been illustrated by Olivia Iacono, a freelance illustrator, Graphic Designer and Artist with over ten years experience working in the corporate sector, and with a passion for bespoke illustrations.

The stories are the result of a writing competition the Society ran last year, inviting cat lovers of all ages to submit original stories that would help educate the community on responsible cat ownership or raise the profile of cats as companion pets.

“We were absolutely overwhelmed with the response to our Furry Tales Children’s Story Competition,” says Rachel Bitzilis, Communications and Marketing Manager of the Cat Protection Society of Victoria.  “The stories made us laugh, cry and fall even more in love with our furry feline friends, so we couldn’t be more excited to release our first picture book to celebrate the importance of responsible cat ownership.”

The Furry Tales Children’s Picture Book, featuring the two stories, is available now for $29.95 from https://www.catprotection.com.au/product/furrytales or from the Society’s Retail Shop, located at 200 Elder Street, Greensborough.
