A match made in food heaven: Farmers Pick announce partnership with OzHarvest.

Announcement posted by OM Digital 11 Jul 2022

The Aussies at the forefront of food waste saving 700,000 KG of food from landfill in two years.

From little things, big things grow.

And that’s precisely the mantra from the young hard-working co-founders of Farmers Pick, Josh Ball, and Josh Brooks-Duncan. The dynamic duo first conjured the concept for Farmers Pick whilst walking through a local farmers market. And two years on, they’re now saving and delivering farm-fresh, weird and wonderful fruit and veggie boxes direct from the farm, and in the process saving Aussie households 30% on their weekly shop.

Now, they’re joining forces with Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, OzHarvest, as a proud supporter to help combat food waste on a national level. But first, they’re coming to Sydney.

The partnership with OzHarvest was the perfect alignment of values. Both Farmers Pick and OzHarvest are actively working together to end food waste in Australia. This is why Farmers Pick will help provide OzHarvest with 100,000 nourishing meals in the next 12 months to support Aussies experiencing food insecurity.

“The food waste issue is dire with tonnes of fresh produce left on the farm to rot. Meanwhile, there are thousands of Aussies struggling with their weekly food shop. So we're really proud to be partnering with OzHarvest to tackle this head-on.” said Josh Ball, Co-Founder of Farmers Pick.

OzHarvest National Community Partnerships Manager, Lisa Dainty said working with like-minded partners is key to achieving the national goal to halve food waste by 2030. “OzHarvest is thrilled to be partnering with Farmers Pick, who is helping to tackle the huge amount of food wasted at the farm level. With food insecurity on the rise, we need to do whatever we can to make sure good food does not end up in landfill, but feeds hungry people instead. We also want to inspire people at home to understand how we all have a role to play in tackling the nation’s food waste.”

The national partnership between Farmers Pick and OzHarvest will strive to raise awareness of the food waste crisis occurring in Australia on a commercial scale. And shed light on how everyone can help by making different choices that result in positive and tangible changes from the farm to your door.
