Book your chance to chat with the godfather of VR

Best known as the tech genius who created the Oculus Rift VR headset and sold his first multi-billion-dollar company, Oculus VR, to Facebook in his early 20s, Palmer Luckey is excited about the innovation potential in Australia, and we have some opportunities to meet him in person in Sydney in 18 August at the Arthouse Hotel at 275 Pitt Street, Sydney.

Media are invited to have a 30 minute VR session and chat with Palmer Luckey – about VR, the metaverse and why he is looking for Australia's smartest minds to shift to defence tech.

On a mission to advance US and allied military capability with cutting edge technology, Palmer Luckey created Anduril Industries to bring a Silicon Valley approach to defence technology.  “The world’s biggest island is the perfect place to set up our first overseas R&D base for our extra-large autonomous undersea vehicles (XL-AUVs),” said Luckey.

“But our choice to set up base in Sydney is about much more than geography. I find that people in Australian tech understand defence issues intuitively - they understand that defence is one of the most important things you can work on,” he continued.

Anduril will harness Australian expertise in robotic technology, autonomy and software engineering and Palmer is looking for our best and brightest talent: “Too much engineering talent is currently building whimsical playthings, augmented reality emoji apps and better search engine targeting, and we need to shift this around. The next war will be won by the smartest engineers. We need the most brilliant technologists in military engineering and I’m here in Australia to find them. If you want to work in technology on interesting problems, there’s no better place than Anduril. We get access to very fascinating problems, many of which are not even in the public domain. We will not take you for granted and you will have a lot of fun. It'll be spiritually fulfilling, professionally fulfilling and fiscally fulfilling.”

Palmer Luckey will be providing one on one VR experiences across the day on 18 August.
