Announcement posted by Activ8me 24 Feb 2023
Activ8me will be participating in the trial of a new unmetered and higher speed Sky Muster Plus plan, announced earlier this week by NBN Co.
The trial will start in early March and aims to assess the viability of offering satellite services - known as Sky Muster Plus - with burst download speeds of up to 100mbps and all day unmetered data usage. This includes uncapped 24/7 video streaming.
The capped data allowances on nbn Sky Muster® plans have long been a pain point for Activ8me customers that are connected to the nbn Sky Muster Plus satellite service.
“Activ8me are excited to be participating in the trial and believe that a product like this will meet the needs of modern families,” said Martin Camilleri, CEO of Activ8me,
“We have been advocating for changes like this on behalf of our customers for some time, and we are happy to see NBN Co take this step.”
The trial will include customers on Sky Muster Plus 100GB plans and above, however nbn may expand the scope of the trial to apply to other Sky Muster® Plus plans with the aim of having 10,000 participants in the trial by the final phase in May 2023.
If successful, a new product that offers this increased data and faster speeds will be a vast improvement on the current monthly maximum of 150GB available for video streaming and VPN in the evening and the current download speed of 25mbps.
Standard monthly charges will apply to customers on the trial, as per their existing service, with no additional charges for receiving the enhanced trial product.
Pending successful results, nbn hope to make this faster, uncapped service available for sale to the public, including Activ8me customers, after the trial concludes.
