Ireland's Mary Coughlan resumes Oz tour with sold out/selling fast shows

Ireland’s beloved queen of blues and jazz, Mary Coughlan will resume her Australian tour this weekend, after a cracking start in early March, which saw her captivate audiences at festivals and venues in regional Victoria, New South Wales and ACT.
After a two week stint in New Zealand, she returns to play at sold out shows in Melbourne and Brisbane, with others selling fast. In Melbourne, The JazzLab has responded to public demand and added a matinee this Sunday, April 2.
With her glorious husky voice, Coughlan had audiences at Port Fairy Folk Festival (PFFF) and Blue Mountains Music Festival (BMFF) captivated at every show. Performing to packed houses with her three-piece backing band consisting of guitar, double bass and piano, her wry banter between songs belies the heartache and turmoil behind her lyrics, taking audiences on an emotional rollercoaster of tears and laughter, commanding standing ovations.
At PFFF, the audience formed a guard of honour, applauding her as she walked across the grounds after her final performance at the Festival.
Justin Rudge, Program Director of PFFF has high praise. He says, “On her return visit to Port Fairy, Mary stepped to another level. From her first show at lunchtime on Saturday at our biggest stage, she had full houses enraptured with every word, story and moment. Her performances grew across the festival, and by Monday she had audiences of all ages across the festival raving. We can’t wait to have her back!”
Feedback from BFFF was just as glowing, with festival director Bob Charter saying, “Mary Coughlan has taken her talents to a whole new level. Her command of the stage and audience alike is extraordinary and her magnificent voice is richer than ever. She had the punters raving after being absolutely captivated at every one of her festival performances.”
