Intel, SAS make business intelligence mobile throughout the enterprise

Helping organisations improve performance, mobility, scalability in powerful analytics
Intel Corporation and SAS, the leader in business intelligence and analytic software, today announced a joint effort to help users expand business intelligence throughout the enterprise, using technology from SAS running on Intel-based clients and servers via the Intel Itanium 2 processor and Intel Centrino(tm) Mobile Technology.
This new effort will employ guidelines from Intel's Mobilised Software Initiative to extend the benefits of the SAS Intelligence Architecture. With wireless connectivity, the intelligence that SAS extracts from customer information can be used when and where it is needed, regardless of network connection status, thus moving decision making closer to customer interaction points and allowing users to make faster, better informed decisions with confidence.
"As organisations strive for increased profitability and growth, the pressure is on to provide faster, better information to decision makers. SAS and Intel have long enjoyed a strong relationship and this expanded facet will continue to produce the best technology benefiting the end customers with faster access to SAS capabilities using the latest Intel based technology," said Keith Collins, chief technology officer at SAS.

As part of the effort, we have extended the term of the joint SAS Intel Advanced Research Centre located at SAS headquarters in Cary, N.C., for another two years. Intel's Mobilised Software Initiative applies architectural concepts similar to offline-networked messaging to a broader range of applications. This allows many more solutions to be used productively, regardless of the status of the network connection. SAS and Intel are working together to apply these concepts in four categories:
* Offline data management - To provide a consistent user experience allowing business users to continue working and be productive even when disconnected.
* Seamless connectivity - To dynamically manage changes in network connection types, providing the optimal connection without requiring user intervention.
* Multiple platforms - To allow applications using standards like XML to run on virtually any operating environment.
* Power and performance management - To conserve battery life and deliver optimal computation and I/O performance without the need for power cords or network cables.
