With the financial year now at an end and many Australians grappling with the growing cost of living, soaring rents and the abolishment of tax concessions such as the Low and Middle Income Tax Offset this year, it's little wonder that those feeling the pinch are looking to salvage as much of a return on their taxes as possible. Kerry Packer's former accountant Allan Mason released his book, “Tax Secrets of The Rich” for the 2023-24 financial year and like its previous versions, it’s a bestseller across the country.

Here are his 5 Top Tax Tips:-

1.Keep a diary when working from home, as 67 cents for every hour can be claimed on your tax return.

2.Attend a relevant course – claim the travel cost as well as the course fees if it's related to your industry.

3.Travel to a number of places of work or offices during a day and claim the kilometers you travelled. You can claim 78 cents per KM up to 5,000 KM’s

4.Buy any new items like a laptop for work use, office computer for home, or new mobile before 30 June.

5.Lastly, check if you have maxed out your super contributions, do you have any prior year unused caps that you can use this year? They are lost if not used in a five year period.
