Australian Competitive Eater James Webb Conquers the U.S., Sets New Records and Takes Home Two Championships in 48 Hours

Announcement posted by HM&M PR 04 Sep 2023

James Webb, Australia's rising star in the world of competitive eating, has taken the United States by storm, capturing two prestigious titles within a whirlwind 48-hour period. Currently ranked fifth globally and first in Australia, Webb is fast becoming an international sensation in competitive eating.

Victory at the Wing It On! Beating Joey Chestnut and breaking a world record

In his debut at Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, New York, Webb outperformed seasoned champions Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo to win the Wing It On! U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Championship. Webb devoured a staggering 276 chicken wings in just 12 minutes, setting a new world record. His winning number averaged a pace of consuming an eye-watering 23 wings per minute.

Webb's meteoric rise in the world of competitive eating began just two years ago as a bit of fun, but this weekend he became the man of the National Buffalo Wing Festival.

Webb Dethrones Esper at 2023 World Slopper Eating Championship

Just two days before his triumph in New York, Webb was in Pueblo, Colorado, toppling two-time defending champion Geoff Esper at the 2023 World Slopper Eating Championship. Webb managed to eat 32 of Pueblo's unique 9-ounce sloppers in just eight minutes, narrowly beating Esper's total of 31.5.

Quotes from James Webb

"I was just trying to clean the bones as best as I could. I know that I’m not as fast as [Chestnut and Sudo], but if they weigh leftovers and there’s less chicken, I have a chance. I guess my style works," Webb continued.

“I’m from Australia and I've been doing this for two years,” Webb said. “I started this as a bit of fun and now I get to travel the world eating.”

Quotes from Joey Chestnut

“I’ve got some bad cleaning habits I guess,” Chestnut said. “This was only my second time eating against James Webb, and the guy is good. He surprised me, I didn’t know how fast he was.”
