WÜSTHOF WINS INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARD FOR ITS LATEST BREAD KNIFE WITH EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

Announcement posted by WÜSTHOF 14 Sep 2023

The WÜSTHOF Performer Double-Serrated Bread Knife was awarded Good Design Award for design and innovation.

The recently released WÜSTHOF Performer Double-Serrated Bread Knife is a serrated knife, for domestic and commercial use, that truly outperforms all others.

The Wüsthof Hexagon Power Grip handle is an ergonomic, patented, honeycomb design that greatly reduces the possibility of slippage, even when wet, ensuring each slicing moment is safe, comfortable, and precise.

The blade design, also created by the Wüsthof design team, has serrations within the serrations, ensuring it remains sharp for longer, requires less pressure and is suitable for very precise, smooth cuts. This means it cuts easily and cleanly through all types of breads, thicknesses of crusts, and other produce where other serrated knives perform poorly.

While each blade is forged from a single-piece of WÜSTHOF steel and receives the final perfection from experienced knife grinders, the blades Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) coating provides unique hardness as well as the water-repellent lotus effect - to keep it clean and glide effortlessly and precisely through food.

The DLC coating, which originates from aerospace and motorsport, increases the surface hardness of the WÜSTHOF steel from 58° to a unique 104° Rockwell - making it virtually immune to adverse external influences and extremely resistant to heat.

"We challenged our team to create the best bread knife in the world, without compromises to handling or design", explains Hartmut Wunram, Wüsthof EVP Brand & Creative.

"Tonight, their dedication and creative solution to this challenge has been recognised by leaders in design and innovation from around the world, the Wüsthof family, our design team and the whole business is delighted with this accolade."

The Australian Good Design Awards is the country's oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation with a proud history dating back to 1958. The 2023 Awards celebrated 65 Years of Good Design since the founding organisation behind the awards - the Industrial Design Council of Australia (IDCA) was first established.

The Good Design Awards Jury spent two days at the Sydney Opera House discussing and debating which projects should be recognised with the prestigious Good Design Award accolade.

Upon selecting the WÜSTHOF Performer Double-Serrated Bread Knife the Good Design Awards Jury recognised all the knives in the series, saying:

"The Wusthof Performer is an exquisitely designed knife set that is durable, practical and fit for purpose. It is clear this product has gone through a professional design process. The end result ticks every box for good design. Well done."

The WÜSTHOF Performer Double-Serrated Bread Knife retails for $899 and was released in Australia earlier this year.
