Announcement posted by Intel 15 Oct 2003

Leading design and manufacturing firms working with Intel to accelerate innovation of Intel architecture based products and solutions.
To fulfill Intel's vision of compute models on enterprise platform and convergence of communications and computing, the IT industry took a major step forward today with the extension of the Innovation Alliance efforts.
The Innovation Alliance, which started with desktop and mobile computers manufacturers in fall of 2002, has extended its scope to include enterprise and wireless communication products with leading companies - ASUSTeK, Compal, Gigabyte, HTC, MicroStar, Mitac, SuperMicro, Quanta, and Wistron -joining the effort dedicated to developing next-generation products in these new areas.
"Technological innovation helps discover and create new market opportunities. New platforms and new applications are creating new usage models for enterprise customers and consumers," said John Antone, vice president of sales and marketing group, and general manager of Intel's Asia-Pacific operations. "We are pleased to work with these companies to provide the industry and end-users with innovative products and end to end solutions."
Through the Alliance, Intel provides members with the Platform Vision Guides (PVG), containing platform definitions, usage models and market trends, and customised technical support for the design and manufacturing of new converged products.
"Intel continues to drive the adoption and deployment of Itanium and XeonTM processor-based platforms in the fast-growing enterprise market," said Abhijit Talwalkar, vice president and general manager of Intel's Enterprise Platforms Group. "We are committed to delivering solutions with increasingly higher value to today's and tomorrow's corporate environments, fulfilling our customers need for scalability, manageability, availability and reliability advantages and lower TCO. The Innovation Alliance is an integral part of Intel's on-going efforts to develop, enable and empower the enterprise ecosystem to ultimately bring increasing value to end users.
"Consumers expect to enjoy wireless computing anytime, anywhere," said Ron Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Wireless Communications and Computing Group. "Rich data applications, multi-tasking functions, longer battery life and small form factors are what consumers want today. The Innovation Alliance is a major step in advancing the wireless handheld device platform to reach this important goal. Working closely with some of the world's most highly regarded design and manufacturing companies, we are confident that the Alliance will fuel innovation in the wireless handheld device platform."
Asia-Pacific has become the centre for product development and manufacturing for the worldwide industry of enterprise and wireless handheld devices, boasting of strong research and development capabilities, cost-effective and efficient manufacturing expertise. Many Taiwanese companies play a key role in this trend. Through the Innovation Alliance, Intel is expanding the worldwide community of talent, expertise and experience to further energise the industry, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
Intel's collaboration with enterprise and wireless handheld devices developers and manufacturers under this alliance began in the first half of this year. Products resulting from this collaboration will be available in 2004.
