'No need to sit on the fence any longer' - vocal eSIM supporter & Boost Mobile founder champions the major benefit for consumers around cost and choice

SYDNEY, Australia, February 14, 2024BOOST MOBILE, the world's largest youth-focused telco brand, has today unveiled its first ever eSIM offering for Australian customers alongside its newly refreshed app. While love will be in the air for some this Valentine's Day, for others it is time to get out of their situationship, and the same can be said for many sitting on the fence with their current telco. Today's launch makes it easier than ever before for Australians seeking great value and full coverage of the Telstra Network to switch to Boost in a fast and easy way, without the need for exchanging physical SIM cards.

The many benefits of eSIM are still not well understood by many Australian consumers and Valentine's Day lovebirds, with more than 40% unaware of its benefits. This is true even as the number of eSIM capable phones in the market continues to increase, now at more than half of the market.

eSIM (embedded SIM) is a SIM that is built directly into mobile phones and other technology, which negates the need for physical SIM cards, instead being replaced by a digital eSIM profile. There are many eSIM compatible models already in the market and a growing number of new devices include the feature, including from Apple and Samsung. High quality refurbished devices available through Boost Mobile's own Refurb Store also include models that are eSIM compatible such as the sub $400 Refurbished iPhone XS, XR or later.

Consumers simply need to buy, activate and manage a new Pre-Paid service with a few taps in the new My Boost Mobile app to take advantage of the technology. Boost Mobile has been a strong advocate for eSIM over many years, with the new addition to its product portfolio delivering on its promise to make it easier for Australians to switch providers and manage their plans. With eSIM, love is speed, convenience, a more sustainable offering, and an easy solution for those that want multiple numbers on the one phone. It also further empowers consumers to get the deal they deserve with the ability to switch providers easily and quickly without stress - something Boost believes is an essential to a non-toxic telco relationship.

"As an industry we have traditionally made it way too hard for people to port in and out. This is because having the ability to move in seconds, across multiple carriers and networks, is actually big telco's worst fear! Putting up barriers between switching telco serves the company, not the consumer. eSIM changes the relationship consumers have with their telcos", said Peter Adderton, Founder of Boost Mobile.

"We are all about choice, great deals and putting the power back in the hands of consumers. We believe there are many Australians sitting on the fence, wanting to change telcos but are worried about how to do it, or concerned about losing their number. With eSIM there's no need to put up with a below standard experience when the technology and innovation is there to easily move across to a telco that will work hard for you. Make us work for your business."

At the same time as Boost is launching eSIM, it is also launching a new My Boost Mobile App which delivers more information on data usage and overall smoother consumer experience. The recently-refreshed app enables the consumer to compare month-on-month usage in an easy to read graph, and manage multiple services at the same time.

According to Telsyte's 2023 Australian Mobile Services Market Study, while 46% of Smartphone users have a handset that supports eSIM, only 12% of eSIM compatible smartphone users are currently using eSIM. While this is growing (6% in the last year), Boost is eager to support its growth and encourage users to dump their situationship and embrace the benefits that an easier way to swap providers can deliver.

To wish Aussies a Happy Valentine's Day and celebrate the launch of eSIM making it faster and easier than ever to switch, Boost has made existing and potential lovers a mixtape! Empowering Aussies to Dump their Situationship and find their new Boo(st), the playlist is publicly available on Boost Mobile's own Spotify account.
