National cosmetic chain applauds 'Right to Disconnect' and calls for more protections for workers

Cosmetique outperforms cosmetic sector with impressive work-life harmony practices and progressive workplace culture

The CEO of national cosmetic, injectables and hair loss clinics, Cosmetique, is calling for increased work life balance for employees.

Dr Eranki is the founder and CEO of Cosmetique and he believes the recent Right to Disconnect Bill is an important initiative that will facilitate greater employee work life balance with increased rights and flexibility, especially in the area of leave.

"Our research shows that happy and supported staff are less likely to take leave and will provide enhanced levels of customer service and patient care," Dr Eranki said.

"We are part of the human services industry and our treatments are provided in person.   While training and qualifications are essential, bedside manner is critical.   Happy staff translates to warm, engaging and helpful customer service.

"In a busy market space where businesses are vying for a greater share of the consumer wallet, customer service is often the deciding factor for consumers on where they will spend their money.

"Discounting is not ideal in any business, especially in the health space, as we invest so much in our people, training, compliance and facilities. If a patient feels as though they are being treated with the highest levels of care and consideration by a clinician who is happy and supportive, then they will keep coming back.

"Everyone experiences challenges in their life and staff are not robots, they are humans that need support. If our staff feel genuinely supported then they will not only appreciate and value our business as a workplace, importantly, they will also appreciate and value our patients.

"Not only do staff need to disconnect from work for mental health reasons, they also need to be able to take leave when they need it for life balance reasons. Unfortunately a lot of workplaces do not offer this flexibility and this is where legislation is needed to really help workers achieve a fair and reasonable outcome."

Dr Eranki explained that Cosmetique fosters and advocates for a healthier work-life balance among its staff.

"This is why we support the Fair Work Amendment (Right to Disconnect) Bill 2023 as it aligns with Cosmetique's core values and operational ethos," Dr Eranki said.

"Cosmetique has always prioritised the mental health and satisfaction of our staff, ensuring that all treatments are performed by highly trained registered nurses in a stress-free environment."

Dr Eranki, has been a vocal proponent of operational optimisation and the integration of work-life balance principles into the business' operations.

"The Fair Work Amendment (Right to Disconnect) Bill 2023 is a reflection of a culture that respects individual boundaries and recognises the importance of mental health," Dr Eranki stated.

"At Cosmetique, we have observed that implementing strict work-life balance measures has not diminished productivity. On the contrary, it has enhanced our employees' efficiency, creativity, and overall job satisfaction."

Dr Eranki highlights the multifaceted benefits of the Right to Disconnect, drawing on both research and Cosmetique's own practices.

Enhanced employee well-being and productivity

"By ensuring our team members can fully disconnect outside of work hours, we have seen a significant reduction in sick leave, burnout and stress. This leads to a refreshed and more focused workforce, driving our productivity and engagement levels upward; a content and healthy employee is our most valuable asset," Dr Eranki said.

Boosted morale and loyalty

"Respecting our employees' personal time has fostered a strong sense of loyalty and a positive work environment. This significantly aids in retention. Our staff have become our greatest advocates in encouraging other talented people in our industry to reach out to us for roles," he added.

Attracting Top Talent

"In today's competitive job market offering a solid work-life balance is a powerful tool in attracting the best in the field. It's about standing out as an employer that not only demands excellence but also provides an environment where it can thrive," Dr Eranki said.

Operational efficiency and cost savings

"Limiting after-hours work has directly contributed to reducing our overtime costs. Moreover, ensuring our team is well-rested leads to better decision-making and reduced risk due to fatigue," Dr Eranki said.

"Setting clear boundaries has streamlined our communication processes, making our team more collaborative and productive during working hours.  We focus on ensuring our meetings are as efficient as possible."

Fostering innovation and creativity

"An often-overlooked advantage of allowing our team to fully disconnect is the boost in innovation and creativity we've observed," Dr Eranki shares.

"When individuals aren't constantly tethered to their work communications, they have the mental space to think more creatively and bring fresh ideas to the table. This has been instrumental in driving our clinic's innovative treatments and customer service enhancements."

Reducing compliance and health-related costs

"Implementing policies that align with the Right to Disconnect can significantly reduce the legal and health-related costs associated with workplace stress and overwork. By proactively promoting a balanced approach to work, we mitigate the risk of costly litigation and health insurance claims, further enhancing our financial health and resilience," Dr Eranki said.

"As leaders within the cosmetic sector, it is imperative we look beyond the conventional metrics of success and embrace practices that ensure the health and vitality of our most important asset—our people. The Right to Disconnect is a positive step in this direction."
