Announcement posted by Corbis 17 Jun 2008
SEATTLE – SnapVillage, the simple and affordable stock photography website empowered by Corbis, today announced its worldwide commercial launch with the unveiling of a significantly improved website design and navigation as well as enhanced website functionality. SnapVillage’s diverse collection of lifestyle, travel, business, retail and finance photos priced from $1 to $50 has soared to nearly 300,000 images, with approximately 10,000 new images received every week.
“Graphic designers, web designers and other creative individuals are quickly finding that SnapVillage is one of the easiest places to buy affordable, high quality stock photography,” said Adam Brotman, Senior Vice President of Corbis.com and SnapVillage.com. “Our latest improvements reinforce that SnapVillage is a completely fresh, simple approach to stock photography built around the needs of customers. We offer an intuitive website, straightforward pricing and purchasing as well as innovative interactivity features that make finding the best pictures easy.”
In addition to releasing a more visually compelling and intuitive website, SnapVillage also introduced enhancements including faster and more reliable image uploading, better image processing for more vibrant and professional-looking previews and back-end technology upgrades that give the website world-class security and stability.
To celebrate its commercial launch, SnapVillage is offering a 25% discount on its subscription offering until June 30th. The special subscription rate allows customers to download up to 750 images over 30 days for just $149, making it particularly desirable for creatives who need a lot of images. The vast majority of SnapVillage’s collection is available through the subscription offering.
"Since I run a one-person graphic design firm, the convenience, speed and simplicity of SnapVillage's affordable subscription makes doing my job a lot easier and saves my clients money," said Kate Moon, Owner, Resonate Graphics. "The variety and quality of images are inspiring and meet all my creative needs, and the prices are affordable across the board."
Since its beta launch in June 2007, SnapVillage has made several significant upgrades to the website including rolling out IPTC/XMP metadata support, strengthening its watermark, opening for global sales and improving the registration and purchasing process. SnapVillage, which is a user-generated stock photography website, is attracting industry-leading talent including Yuri Arcurs, Andres Rodriquez, Ron Chapple (iofoto) and Scott Maxwell (LuMaxArt), all of whom have contributed large portfolios to SnapVillage.
Although SnapVillage is today announcing its commercial launch, it will regularly roll-out more website and service improvements. Enhancements planned for this year include improved search and shopping basket checkout processes as well as a bulk upload tool for contributors, which is widely requested by the photographer community and is being prioritised.
Though many improvements and changes have been made, some things will stay the same including SnapVillage’s straightforward pricing and payment and the innovative “Pick Your Own Price” model for contributing photographers. All payments are conducted via credit card without cumbersome credit packs, tokens or other complicated pricing schemes that require buyers to make upfront commitments. There is one flat price for all file sizes {Small (~3mb), Medium (~6-8mb) and Large (more than 10mb)}. Photographs can either be licensed individually at price points of $1, $5, $10, $25, and $50 or via monthly subscription.
