Adelaide, SA to Perth, WA in 7 days, It’s a Rental sponsored by Wiper Blades Direct takes on Shitbox Rally – Autumn 2024

Announcement posted by Wiper Blades Direct 15 Mar 2024

Team 'It's a Rental' sponsored by Wiper Blades Direct are set for the adventure of a lifetime when they join a convoy of teams in Shitbox Rally, Australia's largest independently-run fundraiser for Cancer Council.

Shitbox Rally is not a race, it's a challenge to drive cars worth $1,500 or less across Australia via some of its toughest roads to raise money for Cancer research. This remarkable event has raised more than $42 million since the first rally in 2010.

To participate, each team must raise a minimum of $5,000 with a target of $2 million for the rally.

  • Team name: It's a Rental
  • Team member names: Rob Overend and Andrew Rigney
  • The suburb/town where you live: Balgowlah, Sydney

Team member Rob Overend says "It's our second time doing the Shitbox Rally, but this will be our toughest route by far. Our trusty 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer is going to go through some challenges she didn't expect to be doing at her age, but we've got faith that our skills, our playlists and our mechanics will get us across the finish line. Cancer has sadly been connected to both our families, and it's an honour to be raising money for such a great cause. We're keen to 'rally' as much support as we can to reach and hopefully surpass our fundraising goal, and we're grateful to have Wiper Blades Direct on board to help us do just that."

Box Rallies (Shitbox Rally, Mystery Box Rally and Cancer Cruise) James Freeman OAM, Founder and CEO who lost both of his parents to Cancer within 12 months of each other, said; "Shitbox Rally is not a race, but a reward for fundraising efforts. This is a chance to explore Australia, drawing teams from around the country to help achieve the extraordinary.

Departing Adelaide, we start a 3 day pilgrimage up the Oodnadatta Track to Uluru, then past Kata Tjuta and off towards the Gibson Desert for the journey down the Great Central Road to the Southwest and our destination, Perth. This is the second time we are heading from Adelaide to Perth, but with only two of the original stopovers. This route has a lot more unsealed roads to test the cars and drivers.

Teams will have red sand under their feet from night one, then bask in the glory of the Oodnadatta Track before fine dining with white tablecloths and the Field of Light dinner in Uluru. Hospitality from indigenous communities on the Great Central Road with the red sand and dust only giving way at the last moment before a final day's drive across the vast wheatbelts to the East of Perth. A sensational route.

Teams not only pull together to help each other through the challenges of the rally itself, but also help and support each other through openness, mateship and camaraderie from people that have gone through similar hardships with their own cancer stories."
