Everyday life is getting so expensive that it's no wonder everyone is trying to make more money either through a side hustle, investments or passive income. What about inviting wealth into your home with Feng Shui?
According to Kellie Richardson, highly respected interior designer, creator of the term 'Botox for your home' and founder of Melbourne-based home design company Kurved by Design, for believers and followers of Feng Shui, this ancient Chinese art of geomancy uses energy flow to harmonise and balance peace and prosperity in the home; for the sceptics, put it this way, at the very least, you'll be creating a space that you feel good in, which in turn promotes peace of mind, comfort and security, which are all characteristics of what a home should feel like.
"As an interior designer, I am drawn to Feng Shui because integrating these elements into a home creates a space that is not only natural but also extremely aesthetic," she said.
Trusted by clients and respected by those in the industry, Richardson is particularly well known for incorporating elements and principles of Feng Shui into her design concepts and shares some tips on how bringing in principles of Feng Shui into your home can not only invite more wealth and prosperity into your home, but also keep it there.
In 2020, Richardson won the global CEO Excellence award in 2020 for 'Best Property Styling and Interior Design Business'. She is regularly asked to find ways to incorporate pet beds and other items into the interior styling of properties.
Inviting wealth into your home
"The entry way to your home is a focal point in Feng Shui because your home's entry gate is also known as the mouth of qi. All energies including wealth flow through your front door, so to activate the area and invite more wealth into your home, have a clean welcome mat at your front door, and an inviting space when you walk in," Richardson said.
"This area should be clutter- free, so make sure your kids don't just dump bags and shoes and sports balls all over the floor when they get home! You should also make sure you walk through your front door at least once a day."
Bedroom wealth corner
"Did you know that every bedroom has a wealth corner? You can identify it by standing at your bedroom door and looking towards the far left corner," Richardson said.
"This is your wealth corner and where you should activate wealth by putting items that will bring prosperity into your home. My favourites are a beautiful house plant, amethyst or a calming water fountain.
"In Feng Shui, flowing water represents an abundant flow of wealth. So besides having a fountain, you also need to maintain the plumbing in your home to make sure there is no water damage or any pipes that are leaking as these will lead you to lose wealth instead!
"Amethyst is also a great addition to the wealth area because of its purple colour, and because it resonates with the feeling of abundance. It can also invoke feelings of spiritual abundance, which goes hand in hand with material wealth.
"Adding the colour blue or green is also ideal. These colours are associated with the wood element, so including these colours in the wealth area can support growth and healing in this area of your life. You can opt to paint a whole wall green or blue or choose a smaller, more subtle accent, depending on your decor and style."
Feng Shui plants
"Succulent house plants have been trending for years now, we simply can't get enough of them. The good news is that the Chinese jade plant is a succulent, so having one of these in your home, particularly in your bedroom wealth corner, is absolutely the easiest way to bring more wealth and prosperity into your home," Richardson said.
"The jade plant is thought to invite and attract money into the home and the concept is that if you plant one either in the garden or in a pot by your front door then it will encourage money into your household. However the reverse comes into effect if you have one by your backdoor - that then encourages money to flow out.
"Other great house plants include the money tree, lucky bamboo and also the peace lily which is so beautiful, why wouldn't you want one in your home."
Citrine crystals and crystal lotuses
"Similarly, gemstones have been trending in interior decoration for a long time so add a touch of sparkle to your home! The favourite crystal to attract wealth is a bright, gold-toned quartz called citrine. This stone neutralises bad energies and promotes good health. Meanwhile the mighty crystal lotus has the powerful ability to strengthen your financial luck!" Richarson continued.
Fish aquarium
"Fishes are said to attract positivity and liveliness to your home. In particular, keeping nine fish can bring wealth and prosperity in your home. You can even increase the number of fish you have, in multiples of nine to further improve your wealth," Richarson said.
Keeping your wealth
"It's all very well to bring wealth into your home but prosperity isn't just about bringing money in, it's also about keeping it and growing it. So here are some general Feng Shui tips related to keeping your wealth," Richardson said.
"Firstly, keeping your home clean and clutter-free. I know that life gets busy but maintaining order in your home also improves your mood. Nobody wants to live in a cluttered environment, so keep in the habit of tidying up daily and make sure everybody in the house does their part to keep their own spaces clean!
"Secondly, remove dead plants or broken items in your home, particularly mirrors as smooth mirrors represent prosperity. Meanwhile, dead plants represent dead energy, so clear away any dead leaves or house plants and make sure you tend to your house plants to keep them healthy.
"Finally, maintain cleanliness in your kitchen. The burners of your stove top are related to keeping your family well fed, so it's essential to keep the stove clean and spotless. Also, make sure you regularly clear out your pantry and fridge and dispose of any old food, because in Feng Shui, food and wealth have close ties."
Your health and your wealth
"Ultimately, Feng Shui is a means of bringing peace and harmony into your life, and also balancing and promoting wellbeing. When you look after your health, your body is at its prime for work, which will help you focus better, live better and earn better. Keeping all these factors in harmony will ensure your route to prosperity!" Richarson said.
