BUCKLEY MEMORABILIA AUCTION

Announcement posted by Michael Krape Consulting 18 Apr 2024

FOOTY GREAT FORCED TO SELL PRECIOUS MEMORABILIA AFTER DIVORCE

"It's unlikely the Nathan Buckley Collection would have been offered for public sale had it not been for the divorce of Nathan and his former wife, Tania."

So said auctioneer, Charles Leski, ahead of a remarkable 200-plus lot collection that is the highlight of a major Sporting Memorabilia auction scheduled for May 1st.

"Nathan Buckley is an Australian sporting legend," Leski says.  "Among his many awards is the coveted Brownlow Medal, regarded as the highest personal achievement in Australian Rules Football.  Nathan was also named as one of the top 50 VFL/AFL players of all time."

Buckley's collection has "something for everyone," says Leski, with pre-sale estimates ranging from $50 to $5,000.

The lots cover the years he was active as a player, coach and one of Australia's most respected football commentators, from 1990 to the present day.

"This collection, sold under difficult circumstances, gives us a rare glimpse into the life of a sporting hero," says Leski.

One of the prized items for sale is lot 265 (below), Nathan Buckley's 2002 Grand Final guernsey.  Buckley won the Norm Smith Medal for best on the ground, despite Collingwood losing the match to the Brisbane Lions by 11 points.

Attractively framed and glazed, pre-sale estimate is $3,000 - $5,000.

The auction will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 10.00am.  Details can be found at www.leski.com.au
