Australia facing tutor shortage: Industry expert calls on parents to dump toxic jobs and take up tutoring

Michael Black is urging parents to swap their interests for income and become tutors

Michael is one of the country's most inspiring young entrepreneurs and he is encouraging parents with a genuine interest in learning to swap it for income.

"The most important element of learning starts with a teacher or tutor that is passionate about learning.   Unfortunately many people gravitate to careers for the wrong reasons and we end up with people delivering services in industries who are not ideally suited to the work," Black said.

"Unfortunately we see this in teaching as well.  To teach a child whether it be in a school classroom or in a tutoring classroom, you have to have a passion for learning.   You need to have a genuine interest in learning and working with people to see them flourish.

"Across the country, there are many parents who are passionate about learning and are supporting  their children to embrace the joys of learning by helping them with homework and assisting them with school projects and other educational activities.

"Many of these parents are unhappy in their career and jobs and want flexible working hours and a more rewarding working environment.  These people are ideal for the tutoring industry and we need them.

"So I am calling on parents with a passion for learning who are ready to jump out of their stressful jobs into something more fulfilling to think about the tutoring industry.

"We need good people and the industry offers exciting franchise opportunities. Demand for tutoring is growing at a significant rate.   The country needs tutoring businesses to support the increase in the number of children experiencing learning difficulties as a result of COVID school closures and other social issues.

"Demand for tutoring is on an upward trajectory and more than ever our children and the country's future needs a healthy and growing industry of passionate, thoughtful and entrepreneurial tutors."

Black is spearheading the growth of one of the country's leading franchise tutoring businesses, Success Tutoring, and he is seeing many children not only overcome learning difficulties to turn their grades and enjoyment of school around, he is also witnessing kids feeling better about themselves and experiencing an uplift in their whole demeanor.

He explained that Australia is facing a shortage of tutors and the country desperately needs people with a passion for learning to consider moving into the industry.

"Tutoring is one of the most fulfilling careers I have ever experienced.  Not only does owning a tutoring franchise offer significant financial benefits, it also allows people to embrace the benefits of working flexible hours while also helping kids who need tutoring support to overcome learning difficulties and flourish," Black said.

Size of the tutoring market

"The tutoring industry is one of the country's fastest growing sectors.  In Australia the tutoring sector already currently engages one in seven children and is a billion-dollar plus industry," Black said.

"The Australian tutoring industry was valued at over $1.2 billion in 2020. The global STEM tutoring market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 15 percent from 2024 to 2027."

Ideal for those passionate about learning

"The tutoring industry is ideal for anyone passionate about learning.  For many parents unhappy in their career, the tutoring industry offers significant opportunities for parents to convert their interests in learning to income in learning as a franchise business owner," Black said.

"Success Tutoring is opening new centres every month and our growth is accelerating in response to the growing need for tutors across the country."

Flexibility

"Tutoring as a business offers franchise owners extraordinary flexibility. Tutoring is delivered on site involving certain hours which means that there is no longer a need to be working long and erratic hours in a career you don't like," Black said.

"The work life balance of tutoring is unparalleled and also offers parents the ability to integrate learning with parenting, which is enormously beneficial for work life balance."
