Meet Kathleen Walsh, National Survivors' Day Ambassador

Announcement posted by IGFF (In Good Faith Foundation) 20 May 2024

Kathleen Walsh is our

Queensland Ambassador

 for National Survivors' Day

Victim, Survivor and a fierce Advocate.

She is Founder, Director, and CEO at Craic On Foundation.

Kathleen's strength is truly awe-inspiring. As one of our National Survivors Day Ambassadors, she represents the countless voices of those who have endured the unimaginable.

Surviving the heinous abuse of one of Queensland's most prolific pedophiles, Kathleen has transformed her trauma into a powerful call for justice.

He met Kathleen when she was just eight years old and was sentenced to a mere 20 months in prison for his crimes in total, despite having a history of abusing victims over several decades.

This grossly inadequate sentence has spurred Kathleen to advocate for an overhaul of the sentencing laws surrounding historic child sexual abuse, determined to ensure that future survivors receive the justice they deserve. Her unwavering commitment to this cause and her bravery in sharing her story make Kathleen a remarkable and inspiring figure who we are proud to call an Ambassador.

Speaking with the Townsville Bulletin last year, she described "I feel devastated for any victim that goes through the process, for them to get that result," Ms Walsh said.

"This doesn't take just a day or two, this is years of a victim's life going through this process to get justice. To sit there and see a sentence of 90 days handed down for something that's affected them their whole lives.

Kathleen lives on Bindal & Wulgurukaba Country (Townsville)

Join us in welcoming Kathleen as she continues to fearlessly lead the charge towards a world free from sexual assault and institutional abuse.
