LIFESTART FOUNDATION EXTENDS SUPPORT: 55 NEW BICYCLES DISTRIBUTED TO FINANCIALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN PHUOC SON AND DUY XUYEN DISTRICTS, QUANG NAM PROVINCE

Quang Nam - The not-for-profit charity Lifestart Foundation (Australia), in partnership with the Quang Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, continues its commitment to annual community projects. Recently, they visited and distributed another round of new bicycles to disadvantaged students in the underprivileged districts of Phuoc Son and Duy Xuyen in central Quang Nam province.

In this latest effort, Lifestart Foundation generously provided a total of 55 bicycles, valued at 100,000,000 VND, benefiting secondary school students facing economic hardships in Phuoc Son and Duy Xuyen districts. Among the recipients are 30 economically challenged students from Ly Tu Trong and Kim Dong Secondary Schools in Phuoc Son district, and 25 students from Chu Van An, Phu Dong, Quang Trung, Luong The Vinh, and Nguyen Thanh Han Secondary Schools in Duy Xuyen district. Notably, all students in the mountainous Phuoc Son district who benefit from this program belong to the Gie Trieng ethnic minority group.

Phuoc Son and Duy Xuyen are districts still grappling with economic disadvantages in Quang Nam province, where many students face inadequate learning conditions due to challenging family circumstances, especially in terms of transportation to school. Particularly, the mountainous district of Phuoc Son is one of the six impoverished districts of Quang Nam province, as per the Multi-dimensional Poverty Index for the period from 2021 to 2025. The district has 27 schools at all levels with over 8,000 students, 75% of whom are from ethnic minority communities.

The primary goal of this initiative is to facilitate easier school commuting for these students who come from families facing significant financial burdens, including single-parent families, orphans, families with illnesses or unstable job conditions, low-income earners, and parents working far from home.

Living in remote villages, these determined students faced exhausting journeys daily. Before receiving the much-needed bicycles, many had to walk long distances or rely on friends for transportation, directly impeding their learning process.

The provision of new bicycles by Lifestart Foundation has addressed a crucial need in Phuoc Son and Duy Xuyen districts, creating favorable learning conditions for impoverished students and contributing to the successful implementation of teaching and learning activities in schools throughout the province.

Ms. Karen Leonard OAM, founder of Lifestart Foundation, stated: "Apart from supporting disadvantaged students with Lifestart Foundation Education Scholarships, we are thrilled to provide transportation to the broader community. The provision of much-needed bicycles will enable these students to travel to school safely and conveniently, maximizing their learning potential. We also hope this provision will motivate them to overcome life's difficulties."

The bicycle donation for disadvantaged students in Quang Nam province is one of many community projects undertaken by Lifestart Foundation annually.

In 2023, Lifestart Foundation provided bicycles to students in Phuoc Son and Nam Giang districts, donated smart televisions and facilitated clean water systems in remote schools across Quang Nam, and presented gift sets to Ca Dong ethnic students and milk to disadvantaged patients at Quang Nam Regional General Hospital.

Earlier in 2024, Lifestart Foundation distributed essential items to ethnic minority students at Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School, ensuring they have a fulfilling Tet holiday and access to academic resources. Recently, they awarded General Medicine and Residency Scholarships to exceptionally talented students from Central Vietnam.

In the future, the organization plans to implement more community projects, including installing clean water systems in remote districts of Bac Tra My and Phuoc Son, continuing its mission to empower disadvantaged Vietnamese families.
