Aurecon JV appointed as professional services partner for Unitywater

Announcement posted by Aurecon Pty Ltd 30 May 2024

International design, engineering and advisory company, Aurecon, together with its joint venture partner AECOM, has been appointed as a professional services partner by Unitywater for its Build Better Together program ("BBT") for the next five years.

With $1.8 billion of capital investment, the BBT program adopts a new model of delivery for Unitywater through long-term industry partnerships. The model responds to the challenges of rapid population growth in the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Noosa regions - projected to exceed one million by 2031.

The model also increases visibility of the work pipeline for all partners while enabling Unitywater to tap into a wide range of skills and resources to deliver on sustainability goals and maintain resilient water infrastructure.

Named Elevate, the Aurecon/AECOM joint venture will enable integrated delivery for a range of projects over the next five years, in close collaboration with a list of suppliers and contractors. Works will encompass sewage collection and treatment facilities, water distribution and reticulation, to effectively meet the needs of the 800,000 residents in the region.

Aurecon Managing Director, Water - Australia, Tim Spies commented, "Aurecon is delighted to support Unitywater in reaching its strategic sustainability objectives over coming years, on the path to achieving a net-zero nutrient discharge to waterways in the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Noosa areas."

"Leveraging interdisciplinary expertise in the fields of water and sustainability, Aurecon is proud to team up with AECOM for integrated delivery, and confident that the technical knowledge, global reach, collaboration and problem-solving skills will drive success for the partnership with Unitywater."

Aurecon will provide comprehensive technical and advisory services for Unitywater's water and sewerage assets. Key responsibilities include long-term strategic planning, network modelling, design of pipelines, pump stations, and treatment facilities, prioritisation of capital works, development of project business cases, and project delivery phase support.

Leading the Elevate team, Aurecon Technical Director, Water, Andrew Mills highlighted collaboration as a key factor for the BBT program's success in the future, "Our ability to work innovatively and collaboratively with clients, construction partners and other stakeholders will play a vital role in achieving long-term success in complex programs like BBT," said Andrew.

Unitywater is committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and reliable water and sewerage services that are both economically and environmentally sustainable. The organisation plays a vital role in constructing, managing, operating, and maintaining sewerage and water infrastructure in South East Queensland.

"The Build Together Better program aligns with Aurecon's sustaining capital strategy, which helps clients make smart capital investment and delivery decisions. Aurecon's involvement in the program exemplifies how we are moving towards a more integrated approach in planning and delivering infrastructure projects," added Tim.
