NUCLEAR IS THE BEST WAY FORWARD – DICK SMITH

# ENTREPRENEUR AND PHILANTHROPIST DICK SMITH CAMPAIGNS FOR NUCLEAR ENERGY

# PM ANTHONY ALBANESE & ENERGY MINISTER CHRIS BOWEN MISLED ON COST OF SOLAR AND WIND BY CSIRO & AEMO

# BATTERIES FOR RENEWABLES ARE COST-PROHIBITIVE, PLUS NEED REPLACING & VAST STORAGE

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Dick Smith has come out swinging against the CSIRO and AEMO's claims that solar and wind renewable energy will fix the power crisis faced by Australians whose bills are skyrocketing year-on-year, The plain-speaking businessman countered this assertion by pinpointing the high cost of batteries that run solar and wind harvesting plants, something that both entities have failed to address, along with the huge cost of battery storage.

Smith has commenced an advertising campaign to highlight shortcomings of the CSIRO's recommendation and recalls when both Labor and Liberal Governments were against nuclear submarines, but very quickly reversed this decision when Smith ran a similar PSA campaign a decade ago.

"Even if we look at electric vehicles - I've had mine for ten years - after that time, you're looking at up to $10,000 to replace your battery, and I've been quoted as much as $40,000 for the replacement of our home battery which is used to charge the car," he said.

"Even if the CSIRO has since backpedaled on the claim that Australia can run solely on renewable energy, which it clearly cannot, the idea that Australians will be better off relying on renewables to lessen their bills is not supported by the evidence."

Smith illustrates his point by referencing poor countries like Pakistan - which generate nuclear power - as a good indication that this type of power is the most economical to run.

He concluded by quoting his upcoming PSA advertising, "No other country has, or is planning to operate their energy system entirely on wind, solar and storage, nor is it possible for a typical Australian household to go fully renewable because of the unaffordably high battery costs involved."
