Having started his career in July 1974 promoting bands and BBC Radio 1 DJs in England, it's safe to say Max Markson was always destined to promote, publicise, and negotiate deals for his swathe of managed celebrities.
In the early days, the bands he promoted and toured with included Hot Chocolate and The Real Thing and to quote him verbatim, 'Some band I paid 300 UK pounds for called AC/DC."
He then came to Australia in 1977 and sold T shirts for the Liberal and Labor parties, before going on to run the ZOO discotheque where he dubbed himself the 'Head Zookeeper'. Some of the celebrity guest DJ's included Dawn Fraser, Geoff Boycott, Dennis Lillee, Brooke Shields, George Hamilton and more.
Markson recalls a time when he had to get very creative to raise funds.
"When silver prices were high in 1980, I sold waste amalgam from Dentists all the way from Sydney to Cairns and then to Melbourne in 3 months!" he said.
"I haven't looked back since and have been extraordinarily blessed to have raised over 40 million dollars for charity and promoted the Australian tours of President Nelson Mandela, President Clinton (4 tours), President Bush Snr, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Vice President Al Gore, Prime Minister Tony Blair, Mike Tyson and Pele as well as carrying out the PR for King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Charlie Sheen, Kobe Bryant, John Travolta and 6 visits with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger."
Over just the last three years alone, Markson Sparks has publicised the launch of BYD electric vehicles into Australia, and has worked with a very diverse number of clients, including Aussie icon Dick Smith, City Tattersalls Club, Mark Wahlberg's Wahlburgers restaurant chain, Celebrity Slim, ASX-listed BCAL Diagnostics, Advanced Hair, Freelancer.com, Future Movement Co e-foils, Legacy Australia's Torch Relay 2023, Roccoco Botanicals, Sans Drinks, Rent Rabbit, Rashays, Sydney International Watch Fair 2023, Sweet Life Australia, to name just a few.
