Announcement posted by Wyse Technology 17 Sep 2008

Wyse Device Manager 4.7 Offers the Industry's Most Secure, Comprehensive Set of IT Management Features for Controlling Thin Clients

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced Wyse Device Manager (WDM) 4.7, the new version of the company’s thin computing device management software that enables IT departments to centrally manage and control a host of intelligent devices with the protection of the most comprehensive security features in the industry. Wyse Device Manager 4.7 is scalable to fit the IT needs of both large and small companies with a no-hassle deployment, management tools for device administration and monitoring, and complete asset visibility.

Wyse Device Manager 4.7 is a software management suite for thin clients providing the tools IT administrators need to track each hardware device and accompanying software in their organization- with support for up to 100,000 or more simultaneously connected units. With a simple-to-use central console containing remote diagnostic capabilities, Wyse Device Manager 4.7 increases productivity by reducing the amount of desktop visits for IT staff.

Wyse has added significant new security features to Wyse Device Manager 4.7 to increase the protection of customers' IT infrastructures. Designed to meet the highest levels of security requirements for networks carrying financial transactions including the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Device Manager 4.7 is fully encrypted for network traffic and offers secure device management features including self-signed HTTPS Certificate Authentication, secure imaging through HTTPS, and imaging through HTTP/FTP.

"With security at the forefront of our customers' requirements, Wyse Device Manager 4.7 leads the industry with the addition of powerful new security features," said Jeff McNaught, chief marketing officer for Wyse. "Not only is Wyse Device Manager 4.7 safer for IT departments, but it's easier to use and implement, simplifying their work, reducing the cost of ownership and improving ROI in any thin computing environment."

Wyse Device Manager 4.7 will be available in both workgroup and enterprise editions. Both editions include database support, automated shutdown and wake-up, and remote execution and control. Wyse Device Manager 4.7 Enterprise Edition, for large organizations, also includes the following features:

          Secure device management

          Next generation/fast imaging

Distributed architecture for scalability and security

Improved network interoperability through non-pxe communications

Comprehensive device configuration and policy management

"As a leader in education innovation, we want to deploy future proof technology that will grow with the expansion of our services," said Benjamin Buecher, Technical Coordinator at University of Pacific.  "By deploying Wyse thin clients with Wyse Device Manager throughout our facility, we have lowered the total cost of ownership by 40% and reduced maintenance costs by nearly 30%.  In addition, it supports our commitment to the environment by reducing our carbon footprint."

Wyse Device Manager 4.7 Workgroup and Enterprise software editions will be available on September 30, 2008. For more information on Wyse Device Manager 4.7 and the Wyse family of thin clients visit http://www.wyse.com/products.
