According to Belafonte, Ms Brown, 49, "engaged in a deliberate and wide-ranging campaign to cause him severe emotional distress and destroy his reputation".

U.S Film, TV and Music Producer and property developer Stephen Belafonte who was married to pop singer Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls for 10 years before she accused him of being abusive to her throughout their marriage, has arrived in Sydney today to, 'set the record straight' by outlining his upcoming $US5 million defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife.

After the allegations against him were made, Belafonte says he remained silent as his primary focus was to obtain full custody of his daughter which was granted four years ago. He will defend himself in court in Florida this year and says he is looking forward to clearing his name and standing up for men everywhere, who have been falsely accused of sexual or physical assault.
