Aussie pride charges up motorists: 81% willing to pay more for batteries made in Australia

Announcement posted by Battery World 17 Sep 2024

While Aussie pride has been at an all-time high in recent months, it is also a deciding factor for the country's motorists with research proving the pulling power of Australian Made.

Battery World's 'Australian Made' survey has revealed that six out of 10 car battery buyers actively seek Aussie batteries over imported ones, with 81 per cent of those willing to pay extra for batteries manufactured right here at home.

"This proves the power of the iconic label that features our gold kangaroo in a green triangle that we all look out for," says Battery World Marketing Manager, Martin McEnery.

"The sentiment among survey respondents was that 40 per cent of car owners in Australia are willing to pay $20 more for an Aussie-made battery; 29 per cent of 4X4 drivers will shell out up to $50 more, while 34 per cent of motorbike and scooter riders are happy to fork out $30 extra for Aussie made."

Australia's leading battery retailer, which is in its 27th year, has been the retail arm of Century Yuasa Batteries - its parent company.

"And we are proud to say that Yuasa is designed and manufactured for Australia's harsh conditions," added McEnery. "The fact that it is manufactured in Carole Park is something for Queenslanders to be exceptionally proud of.

"Yuasa batteries are exclusive to Battery World and the complete range has been developed using some of the most advanced technical resources and manufacturing processes in the world."

The pride vehicle owners have is in line with consumer attitudes reflected in Roy Morgan's latest research which was released in April 2024.

According to the research giant, 77 per cent of Australians are willing to pay more for home-made products.

In addition to this, 72 per cent of those surveyed said they would be actively looking to buy more Australian Made products in the next 12 months.

Sentiment suggests that many Aussies noted that buying locally made products makes them feel good, while others said it makes them feel like they're supporting local jobs and the economy by doing so.
"The Australian Made logo has a proven 35-year track record in making the 'Australian connection', with more and more brands choosing it to promote their Australian credentials," Australian Made Chief Executive, Ben Lazzaro said.

"Over 4400 companies are licensed to use the logo on thousands of products sold here and worldwide."

Battery World is one of the country's 1,200+ franchise systems, and with more than 100 stores in 2024, the team is well and truly on its way to maintaining its future growth, thanks to the support of its network and its customers.

"We've seen positive growth year-on-year due to our extensive service offering around automotive battery sales and service, and the largest range of batteries in store for Camping, 4x4, Motorcycle and Marine," says Battery World General Manager, Johnny Kennedy.

"We've also expanded our B2B network providing a destination for all their battery requirements and continue to provide roadside assistance services nationwide."

Not only does Battery World take pride in its contribution to the Australian economy, but it also loves nothing more than powering the passions of its ambassadors, including Aussie Ironman talent TJ Hendy and Australian Olympian Izzi Batt-Doyle.

"We are passionate about what we do here. I like supporting Australians and supporting Australian-made. As a business, we are proud of that and appreciate it."
