WNBL HoopsFest

Summary

An arm wrestle in the early going between the Bendigo Spirit and the UC Capitals saw the Caps break away late in the opening term to find themselves up 23-16 at the first break. Decisive and opportunistic play by the Capitals bled into the start of the second quarter before the Spirit started chipping away. A late three pointer from Poppy Blanch gave Bendigo their first lead with a minute remaining in the first half before the Capitals tied things up to go into the long break tied at 33. Monique Bobongie was stellar early, pouring in 16 points from every every part of the court.

The Spirit came out firing in the second half, completely flipping the script. They got the scoreboard out to a 45-35 lead just two minutes into the third, but as was the way with this game, the Caps were able to get it within three late in the quarter. The fourth started with Bendigo up 52-46 and able to absorb everything the Caps were throwing at them, keeping the scoreboard in their favour until the end of the game. Despite the loss Bobongie continued her incredible play, finishing the game with 38 points.
