Blue Sky Industries Launches Cyberguard's High Security Compact Firewall/VPN Appliance For SMEs

Announcement posted by Blue Sky Industries 28 Nov 2001

- Highest level security technology - Common Criteria EAL4 - to be available in small, economic appliance package as demand for strong security intensifies -
Australian-owned Blue Sky Industries today announced the availability of CyberGuard Corporation's new compact version of its firewall appliance for the Australian small-to-medium enterprise (SME) market. The set-top model, first of the LX series of firewall appliances, combines stateful packet inspection with full application-level proxies, carries Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) certification and includes an integrated VPN.

As well as the SME market, CyberGuard's high-level security products also support an organisation's branch office. The LX model is designed so regional and SME offices can have the same high-security benefits as CyberGuard's government and commercial enterprise customers. At less than $AU13,000, CyberGuard's LX is the only integrated firewall/VPN appliance at that price in this market with an EAL4 certification, one of the most rigorous independent certifications achievable, recognised internationally by 15 countries including Australia.

"With the increased threat of cyberattacks worldwide, no business - no matter how large or small - can afford to be without the strongest network security," said Martin Kaldor, director of Blue Sky Industries. "As companies revisit their security needs in light of new cyber threats and as they consider price-performance, the LX model will have a distinct advantage over competitors."

Like each of the other CyberGuard appliance firewalls, the LX model incorporates multilevel security (MLS). MLS treats each layer of the secure operating system discretely, maintaining complete separation of network traffic from system components. This design removes access to the operating system from would-be hackers, creating a virtually impenetrable firewall environment.

While the LX is designed for the rapidly growing small office market, it is compatible with the entire appliance line, so it can also function as part of an enterprise network security solution that includes one of CyberGuard's higher-bandwidth appliance firewalls.

Specific product features include a full-featured, integrated VPN; compact, set-top chassis; three 10/100 Ethernet ports; and an intuitive management interface designed especially for the SMEs buyer who is looking for ease-of-installation and ease-of-use.
