ITJ Awards Update: New Award, Science Partnership & More

Announcement posted by Influencing 07 Nov 2024

The Samsung Australian IT Journalism Awards are pleased to announce the addition of a new 'Lizzie', celebrating the best science journalism across 2024: the Award for Best Science Journalist.

The Award is part of a new formal partnership with the Science Journalists Association of Australia, which includes a supported community though Influencing.com and a grant to support the SJAA's Champion of Science Journalism program, to help nurture science journalism and communication in Australia.

"Influencing was founded for the technology journalism community, because we believe expert, specialist journalism is required to help society navigate the complex changes being thrust upon us by innovation," said Influencing CEO and Lizzies Master of Ceremonies Phil Sim. "So it's a natural extension to also support the science writing community by acknowledging and celebrating the best of Australia's outstanding Science writing across 2024."

Judging

The SJAA will also work with Influencing to faciliate the Science Journalism Award at the 2025 IT Journalism Awards, by providing judging support, advice and promotion.

"I'm a big fan of Influencing and the work that Phil and the team have done with the IT Journalism awards to spotlight the best tech journalism in Australia", said SJAA President and 2022's Australian Tech Journalist of the year Jackson Ryan. "Establishing a science award solidifies the close association that science and technology have always had and sets the standard of excellence".

Now in our 23rd year, the Samsung Australian IT Journalism Awards are not possible without Industry support, in part because the event is free for all journalist entries across the tech and now science communities.

With this in mind, we are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of this event from lifetime sponsor Watterson Marketing Communications and our Naming Rights Sponsor for the past five years Samsung; along with returning supporters Optus, NetApp, Meta, and Aussie Broadband who return as the Official Gin Sponsor.

Sponsorship for these awards is strictly limited and availability will close soon, so if you are interested in supporting these awards, please contact Mike@Influencing.com.

Entries Open Soon

Entries for the awards will open in early December, and for general judging enquiries please email CraigD@Influencing.com.

We hope to see you at the Lizzies!
