Zoloft Rap: 'WHO IS DECAF?' defies the expectations of Western Sydney Hip-Hop

Sydney, NSW - Nov 06, 2024 - 20 year old, underground hip-hop artist Decaf, has defied the expectations of what it means to be a Western-Sydney rapper, with their debut album 'WHO IS DECAF?' releasing on November 13th.

In what they've patented as 'zoloft rap', Decaf explores identity, the complexities of mental health, anxieties, delusions and ultimately how to move forward. Sitting at 42 minutes, and 16 tracks, the LP features guest performances from Sidney Phillips, Cherry Rype, iPod, Calliobel and a special message from Skegss.

"I wanted to make the antithesis of a self-titled project, trying to show who you are to the world can feel like an impossible feat, especially when you already have so many personal doubts around your identity, so I decided to lean into that, the album is all of my insecurities, all of my struggles, and hopefully listeners can find some catharsis in that, I want the audience to walk away with their own answer to who Decaf is." 

Decaf dives extremely personal in their subject matter, commenting on their father's late-age adoption surprise in the storytelling epic 'DAD'S SIDE', as well as their own mortality against suicide statistics for queer and neurodiverse youth on 'CLOSE CALL'. 

The persona of Decaf was launched in early 2022, beginning active development on the WHO IS DECAF? project, intended as a quasi self-titled tape. The world was introduced to Decaf soon after with the EP 'BEANIES & BENZOS' performing a sold out show at The Vanguard. Following in 2023, Decaf released 'DELUSIONS' along with a headline show at The Lansdowne. The project was recently previewed in full at a Lazy Thinking event, with additional performances at Parramatta Lanes Pass The Mic.
