Laps for Love 2024

Announcement posted by Markson Sparks! 18 Nov 2024

Sunday 1 December 2024

from 11am - 3pm

Laps For Love is a unique event and the only opportunity for the neurodiverse community to safely enjoy themselves as a whole community.  It is a chance to give them and their families the security of inclusion and allow them to explore beyond restricted mainstream facilities.

Following the success of the Laps for Love event in 2023, Equal Access For Autism has planned an even bigger and better event to be held on Sunday 1st December at the Moonee Valley Racecourse.

Aimed at the neurodiverse community and their friends and family, L4L will give everyone an opportunity to enjoy a family fun day.  Participants can join in walking laps around the track, climb the rock wall, be amazed in the butterfly enclosure, meet and interact with wild Australian animals, make cookies and giant bubbles and much much more.

Mick Gatto and his wife Cheryl - who have a grandson with Autism, Dominic - are arranging the event through their not-for-profit Equal Access for Autism organisation.

Says Mick, "It'll be a great day with lots of fun activities and a chance for those with Autism to have a special day  for themselves including a photo with Sensory Santa. It really is an important event for those who have someone in their family with Autism."

A highlight of the day is an opportunity to get a photo with our Sensory Santa - an experience that is often not an option for members of the neurodiverse community in mainstream centres.

All registered participants will receive a L4L t-shirt, a coffee, a sausage from our onsite BBQ with free popcorn, apples and bananas and bottled water for everyone. There will also be a sensory room for those that need some quiet space and first aid officers and many volunteers on hand if anyone needs assistance.

EAFA is a not-for-profit charity that has been operating in Victoria for almost three years.   Our goal is to provide safe spaces where autistic people who need an advocate or carer to facilitate their access to play and leisure activities within the community that are currently not available.
