Looking DAPPA: Virtually ‘try before you buy’ with new AI-based try-on technology

Announcement posted by DAPPA Fashion 21 Nov 2024

E-commerce sales are set to surpass $6 trillion globally this year, with fashion accounting for a significant portion. On average in Australia, 30% of all online fashion purchases are returned, presenting a hassle for retailers and shoppers alike.

Australian-based fashion-tech startup DAPPA, personally backed by investors Michael Easson and Adam Geha, has developed a solution to reducing the number of fashion e-commerce returns, while also providing a platform for users to explore their personal style, get more wear from their wardrobe and find a quick answer to the everyday question of 'what should I wear?'

Tuesday, 19th November, DAPPA Fashion launched an AI-based personal styling and wardrobe management app, available on all Android and iOS devices, following the success of the Chrome extension 'DAPPA Clip.'

Using Generative AI to enhance the online shopping experience, DAPPA has developed a 'Try-On' technology model known as 'Tailor' to see how any garment will look on, from just a photo of yourself and a separate photo of the garment.

How it works

Start with taking a photo of yourself against a neutral background and save it to your phone. Next, download the DAPPA app and upload your photo and user profile. Then, simply snap a photo of any item of clothing - from your wardrobe, in store, or online - and the generative AI model will recognise the clothing and wrap it to the photo of yourself to show you how it would look on.

DAPPA Features:

Instant Try-On

This feature allows users to virtually try on any outfit or garment from a single picture. Essentially, users can upload an image of any garment or an outfit via their gallery or camera. We'll then apply the outfit or garment onto a select user model. Users can save an outfit to their wardrobe for later viewing.

Wardrobe

This feature allows users to catalogue and keep a digital version of their wardrobe. Users can upload and save garments from their camera or gallery. For now, users must take a picture of single garments at a time but they can be wearing it.

Outfit Builder

Bringing the iconic wardrobe organiser from 90's film Clueless into the present, you can snap and log all of the pieces in your wardrobe, building a virtual catalogue to quickly and easily generate outfit ensembles. This encourages re-wear and presents different outfit combinations users might not have considered. Users can select up to 3 garments to try on at a time — they can select 0 or 1 garment from each category: bottoms, tops and outerwear.

"With DAPPA, we're building a tailored stylist that knows you inside and out, using the latest advancements in Generative AI. At its heart, DAPPA is committed to innovation, offering a unique virtual try-on experience that sets new standards in fashion technology. We help you see yourself in real-time in outfits that perfectly suit wherever you are so you never have to worry about what to wear again!" says Dev Chopra, co-founder and CEO of DAPPA.
