24/25 WNBL Season - Grand Final Game 2

Game Summary

The WNBL 2024/25 season concludes with the Bendigo Spirit lifting the cup and collecting their well-deserved medals.

It was a tightly contested game throughout, with Townsville holding the lead at the end of the first and second quarters. The match was high-energy and defensive-focused from both sides, with points hard to come by in this physical battle. Both teams struggled to shoot efficiently, with field goal percentages falling below 40% due to the intense defensive effort. In total, the game saw 23 steals and 8 blocks across both teams.

Sami Whitcomb led the charge, earning Player of the Game honours, as well as the Finals MVP award to complement her Season MVP title. She has truly filled her trophy cabinet this season with a campaign that will be remembered in WNBL history. Marianna Tolo contributed 17 points and 9 rebounds in the win, while Veronica Burton posted 4 points and 5 steals in a standout defensive performance.

In the final minute, the Fire built momentum for a potential comeback, but it was their free-throw shooting that ultimately let them down, shooting just 54% from the stripe and missing some key clutch free throws. This left them unable to force a Game 3.
