Michael Black, founder and CEO of Success Tutoring, is calling on all political parties involved in the upcoming election to focus on initiatives that help kids.
Black said that a lot of time and focus is being given to affordable housing and while it is important there are other important issues including the urgent need to help kids in need of learning support.
"I would really like the federal government to commit to a national Active, Creative and Learning Voucher program to help families access vital educational support, including tutoring," Black said.
"With many students falling behind in English and math, now is the time for bold policy that supports children's learning outcomes across the country."
Michael Black is a highly revered entrepreneur and business leader and the founder and CEO of Success Tutoring. The franchise group is achieving unparalleled growth with new centres opening across Australia every year. It launched into New Zealand in March and further expands into other international markets including Singapore, Canada, the US and the UK this year. The Success Tutoring team is seeing many children not only turn their grades and enjoyment of school around, but also witnessing kids feeling better about themselves and experiencing an uplift in their whole demeanour.
Currently, NSW families receiving the Family Tax Benefit can access two $50 Active and Creative Kids vouchers per year to spend on approved extracurricular activities.
Black said this is a positive start, but not enough and the program should be adopted and rolled out nationwide and include tutoring as a core category.
"The tutoring industry in Australia is one of the best in the world with many first-class operators delivering real results," Black said.
"But some families are doing it tough and need help to access these services. An initiative of this nature would make a huge difference."
Black is calling for a $500 voucher per child, twice a year, to help cover the cost of tutoring and academic enrichment services with registered providers.
"Just because kids can't vote doesn't mean they should be forgotten in this election. They are the future of our nation. Why not include them in policy initiatives," Black said.
"Australia's literacy and numeracy outcomes need urgent attention. This kind of voucher would allow families to get the right support early, before their child falls too far behind."
He said while the federal government is focusing heavily on housing affordability, education must also be prioritised.
"If the government can explore housing affordability measures and incentives, surely it can fund a program that supports children's learning," Black said.
"We can't build a strong future without investing in the young people who will lead it."
He added that many parents are under pressure from rising living costs and are being forced to choose between household expenses and educational support.
"Tutoring is no longer a luxury, it's essential for many students to stay on track. Families shouldn't be priced out of giving their children the chance to succeed at school."
Black believes that with the right policy, tutoring could become more accessible to all families, regardless of their income.
"We have the expertise, the providers and the infrastructure. Now we need the political will to support families and give every child a fair shot," he added.
