FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTRALIA — 06 May 2025 — In a national first, Pet Management platform PetCloud has launched a new Microchip Registry that gives pet owners full control over how their contact information is kept up to date — helping to solve a long-standing problem that prevents thousands of lost pets from being reunited with their families each year.
The innovative platform offers two pathways: Pet Owners can choose to register their pet as a standalone experience, or opt in to sync their existing PetCloud profile details, one way, with the registry — making it significantly easier to maintain accurate contact records linked to their pet's microchip.
"For years, outdated Microchip Registration Contact data has been one of the biggest barriers to reuniting lost pets with their families," said Deb Webber, Chief Executive Officer of PetCloud. "We're proud to launch a first for Australia — Pet Management platform, plus a Microchip Registry where pet owners are in control and their data is easily kept current through a simple, opt-in process."
Data That Reflects the Reality of Pet Reunification
According to the Animal Welfare League Queensland, around 25% of microchipped cats brought into shelters have outdated contact information, severely limiting the chances of reunification. While dogs are reclaimed at higher rates (60-70%), experts believe outdated data still plays a significant role in failed reunification cases.
PetCloud's Microchip Registry is designed to tackle this issue head-on with a digital-first approach and user-driven data control.
Pet owners now have the choice to:
● Use a Standalone Registry-Only experience, or
● Full Access experience where Pet Owners can Opt in from their Pet's Profile to push their existing PetCloud data one way to the microchip registry — removing the need for re-keying or time consuming paperwork.
"Lost pets are a national issue—and outdated contact details in microchip registries make reunions harder," Webber said. "Many pet owners don't even know which registry their pet is on. We're giving Australians a convenient, simpler way to manage their pet's microchip info and get found faster when every second counts."
Data-First, Pet-First
The registry is designed in alignment with privacy standards and integrates with PetCloud's growing network of Pet Professionals, Breeders, Vets, and Councils. The company aims to register over 300,000 pets in the next 12 months, creating a smarter, scalable safety net for pet families across the country.
PetCloud's Microchip Registry platform is free to search, with registration now open on the website at https://www.petcloud.com.au/choose-experience and use coupon code LAUNCH.
