FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BRISBANE, Queensland - May 8, 2025 - Nick and Kim, students at eBusiness Institute, have defied expectations by generating $75,000 in revenue during their first year building websites for rural Australian businesses, despite starting with minimal digital skills. The couple now earns $3,500 monthly in recurring revenue while successfully bridging the digital divide for outback communities.
Former chef and transport manager Nick partnered with his partner Kim, a former gymnastics coach who had sold her business to travel Australia in a caravan. After meeting in outback Queensland, they combined Kim's basic digital knowledge with Nick's determination to build a thriving agency serving rural clients who previously relied solely on social media for their online presence.
"We sort of ranged from doing a couple of free websites to help people out, then moved to two and a half thousand, then to three, then to three and a half," said Nick. "We have just had a proposal come back for 12 [thousand dollars] and they've accepted the project."
Their breakthrough came after building a 47-page website for the Roma Show Society as a sponsorship deal. This high-profile project established their credibility in the tight-knit rural community, where local relationships are paramount to business success.
"It's relationships at the end of the day," explained Kim. "Country people want to know that the person they're talking to is the person looking after them, not someone via email who could be in Australia, America, or the Philippines."
The couple found that rural businesses, particularly those in agriculture and oil and gas sectors, have the budget for digital services but often lack understanding about the importance of websites. Kim notes, "I'm finding the agency and the clients are just my jam. They're excited about their businesses, and I can get them even more excited about their website."
Matt Raad, Director of eBusiness Institute, highlighted their success as proof that digital skills can create location-independent income. "Considering you're meant to be learning in your first year, not earning," Raad told the couple. "What you've achieved is seriously impressive."
For those considering retraining with digital skills, Nick advises: "Stay the course. A lot of people come into the program with different mindsets, but Matt is always right that they should start with a digital agency. That's how I've grown in confidence."
The couple now enjoys the flexibility to travel regularly between Brisbane and rural communities, building their business while maintaining their connections to outback Australia.
