Majority of Aussies have no idea what policies they voted for. What happens now?

Alex Kain:  The election is over but the system is still broken

Alex Kain's upcoming book The Philosophy calls for a complete rethink of how we govern, who we trust and why we keep voting for more of the same.

As Australia waits for the final federal seats to be declared, the Labor government now faces the daunting task of delivering on a long list of campaign promises, many of which will come with a heavy price tag. While some may benefit from targeted reforms, the broader population is bracing for further strain on an already pressured economy.

According to Alex Kain, author of the upcoming book The Philosophy, the bigger issue isn't which party won, it's why Australians continue to vote without fully understanding the policies they're choosing and the consequences they'll inherit.

We don't need another government. We need a better system

"We are told that elections are the cornerstone of democracy," Kain said.

"But what good is a democratic process when people don't fully understand what they're voting for? When parties win power on polished promises; then go years without being held accountable for results?"

In The Philosophy, Kain dismantles the illusion of political progress, arguing that real leadership has been replaced with spin and elections have become elaborate marketing campaigns. The real winners aren't the people, they're the politicians.

"We need to stop pretending that change will come from choosing a different logo," he said.

"The system is the problem. If there's no performance tracking, no consequence for failure and no way for the public to intervene between elections, then governance becomes untouchable."

Did we vote for change or more of the same?

Kain draws a sharp contrast between Australia's passive political cycle and the disruptive, albeit controversial, leadership style seen in the United States.

"People love to criticise Trump. And whilst I don't agree with everything he stands for, the reality is that he's making big, structural changes on well entrenched processes. He's been able to challenge the status quo on systems that were thought to be immovable," Kain said.

"In Australia, we say we want change, but we vote for comfort. We accept systems that are slow, outdated and deliberately insulated from public influence between elections. If this is democracy, then it's democracy in name only."

No more surface solutions, it is time for structural reform

The Philosophy is not a political manifesto. It is a wake-up call, a forensic critique of modern systems and an invitation to rebuild from the ground up.

From politics to healthcare, economics to justice, Kain interrogates our societal structures and asks: why do we allow broken systems to continue, just because that's the way we've always done it?

"This isn't about being left or right. It's about being awake," Kain said.

"We need a performance framework for governments, we need consequences for failed delivery and we need a national conversation about what we're building, not just who's sitting in the chair."

The book is the beginning, the movement is the mission

Launching in June, The Philosophy will be supported by an interactive online platform designed to bring together thinkers, doers and reformers. Kain's vision is to ignite a grassroots movement powered by honest conversation, collaboration and a shared determination to redesign what no longer serves us.

"I want people to stop outsourcing change to politicians," he said.

"They're sleep-walking!

"Let's bring it back to the people and let's redesign our systems with purpose and accountability.  We need to stop confusing democracy with performance-free governance."
