4 July 2025. Sydney, Australia.
Accord Australasia welcomes the TGA review of sunscreen test results, and any concerns that may arise regarding scientific testing laboratories, as part of upholding accountability, transparency and high ethical standards across the broader testing ecosystem.
'Companies rely on independent testing laboratories in good faith, with the expectation that they operate in full compliance with all regulatory obligations and uphold the highest professional and ethical standards,' said Damian Mitsch, Executive Director of Accord Australasia. 'Independent labs are essential to maintaining confidence in both product performance and environmental claims.'
Accord remains committed to robust, science-based evaluation procedures and to the continuous improvement of the frameworks that support integrity, credibility and public confidence across the product testing landscape.
To this end, Accord has been calling for the inclusion of in vitro SPF testing method, approved by the International Standards Organization (ISO), to be included in the Australian Standard. Adoption of the in vitro SPF methods in Australia will give Australian industry an additional tool to increase confidence in SPF claims
