Sophos renews Manly Marlins rugby sponsorship for 2009

Announcement posted by Sophos 16 Mar 2009

IT security and control firm Sophos has renewed its sponsorship of Manly Rugby Football Club for the eighth year.

Sophos has been the major sponsor of Manly RFC for the last seven years, having first signed up to support the club in May 2002. The company remains a committed and enthusiastic supporter, providing substantial funding for the Manly Marlins.

Commenting on the continued sponsorship agreement, general manager of the Manly Rugby Football Club, Matt McGoldrick said, "It’s wonderful to have Sophos as a major sponsor again our partnership ensures that the Manly Rugby Football Club can continue to provide an avenue for young men in our area to improve themselves on and off the field. Without Sophos this would not be possible. We are grateful to have the support from Rob Forsyth and his team. The club views 2009 as a season of continuity and success and clearly so does Sophos."

"We are very pleased to have renewed our sponsorship arrangement with Manly and are proud to have supported them over the years," confirmed Rob Forsyth, Sophos Asia Pacific managing director. "The Club is a real asset to the community. It has provided us with some real entertainment on the field, as well as a wide range of hospitality and networking activities."

"Sponsoring the Club also gives us an opportunity to support the game at a grass roots level, allowing the development of junior players," said Forsyth. "Manly has a very strong junior program and the Club has produced a number of sportspeople who have gone on to successful careers at club and international levels."

"We are approaching the start of a new season and the Marlins have recruited a lot of talented players to the team, including Will Munsie, Brian Sefanaia current Sevens player, Luke Doherty, Selesi Manu and Joe Sioelli from Tongan Schools who’s incidentally Wycliff Palu’s cousin. We will have a very strong year across all the grades," added McGoldrick.

The Marlins home ground is the historic Manly Oval, often called the Village Green, on Sydney Road, Manly. The first home match of the year is on April 4 against Penrith Emus.
