Are you living or just existing. Alex Kain is urging Aussies to re-set their lives before its too late

We're born, we grow up, we get educated, we go to work, we strive to amass our personal wealth and then we die!   Sadly, somewhere along the way, we forget to ask ourselves the most important question: am I really happy?

In his powerful new book The Philosophy, Melbourne entrepreneur and systems thinker Alex Kain issues a bold challenge to modern life: stop coasting and start questioning.  If we want to make our communities and the world a better place, we need systemic change now.  However the truth is that for many, this involves looking in the mirror, first.

"We're all so busy being busy, we've stopped being present," Kain said.

"Life moves fast. We lose ourselves in deadlines, distractions and habits but deep down, many of us know we're not living the life we truly want.

"It's time we actually stop and reflect and ask ourselves some tough questions."

The Philosophy, officially launched in June this year, is not a self-help cliché or another motivational soundbite. It's a raw, honest and deeply thoughtful, practical guide for anyone ready to take back control of their own life and contribute to something greater in the process.

The book covers key elements of our society that need to change in order for the world to become a better place for all. There are big questions raised about our education and justice systems, the economy, government and more.

Kain explains in his book that there are equally confronting inquiries we must make of ourselves. Am I living a life with purpose and meaning or simply running on autopilot most days? When engaging with others, am I fully aware of my filters, triggers and patterns or do I just follow my comfortable, well-worn path again?

The Philosophy provides the perfect opportunity for readers to stop and review their own life.  Instead of just drifting through your days, this book encourages you to stop, reflect and restart your life, your work, your friendships, your habits, your values and your purpose.

"We often say the world needs to change but change starts with us," Kain said.

"The real revolution begins with curiosity. Question the status quo. Is it still serving you or are you now serving it?

"Many of us are just so busy trying to survive that we don't even ask ourselves the big questions anymore.

"Partly because we don't have the time, but often because we're afraid of the answer we'll receive that might just connect to the dissatisfaction we've buried so deep and derail us from the life we've learned to accept."

Drawing on his background as a business optimisation expert, Kain uses systems thinking to dissect not just societal dysfunction but the personal patterns that feed it. His approach is equal parts philosophical and practical, offering a framework for meaningful self-inquiry and conscious action.

The Philosophy doesn't offer shallow hacks or toxic positivity, it demands more and in doing so, it gives more.

It is a book for the exhausted professional, the disillusioned dreamer, the quiet carer, the lost changemaker and the person who lies awake wondering if there should be something more.

"We're not powerless. We don't need to wait for politicians, billionaires or global movements to create change," Kain said.

"We can start by first changing ourselves and then in turn, change everything!"
