Digital Government Trailblazer Victor Dominello to Deliver the 2025 Pearcey Oration

Announcement posted by Pearcey Foundation 15 Aug 2025

The Pearcey Foundation today announced that this year's Pearcey Oration will be delivered by the Honourable Victor Dominello. Mr Dominello is a former senior NSW Government minister, best known for serving as the inaugural Minister for Customer Service and Digital, a role he pioneered globally in 2019.

During his 12 years in the NSW Cabinet leading portfolios including Digital Government, Innovation, Finance, and Aboriginal Affairs, Mr Dominello earned international acclaim for revolutionising NSW public service delivery through initiatives like the Department of Customer Service, Service NSW, and the Digital Restart Fund.

In his Oration, Mr Dominello will uncover how the convergence of technologies, climate change, changes in industry and geopolitical shifts in trade are driving a rapid evolution of the nature of work and the skills required.

"Technology convergence offers a path to a more efficient, more equitable, and more responsive society. And, as we navigate energy transition, the shifting demographics of our workforce, and massive civil and defence infrastructure projects, we have the opportunity to create better, safer, and more effective ways of working," said Dominello.

Mr Dominello will explore this dynamic landscape through the lens of digitalisation and will offer a vision for rapid change that can enable a better future for Australia.

Widely regarded as the most significant technology oration in the nation, the Pearcey Oration is a vital window on Australia's technology future, providing an eminent expert with an opportunity to explore, in depth, critical contemporary issues arising from the introduction and adoption of new and advanced technologies into our society.

Previous Pearcey Orators have included Dr Ian Opperman, former Chief Data Scientist for NSW and founding CEO of the NSW Data Analytics Centre; Professor Michelle Simmons AO, CEO and Founder of Silicon Quantum Computing and 2018 Australian of the Year; the Honourable Ed Husic MP, former Federal Minister for Industry and Science; Jeremy Hirschhorn, Second Commissioner, Client Engagement at the ATO; Roger Taylor, Chair of the UK Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation, and the late Paul Shetler, technologist, entrepreneur and government advisor. The first Pearcey Oration was delivered in 2008 by the CSIRO's Dr Terry Cutler.

The Oration is a flagship event of Melbourne Connect Innovation Week, which brings together the cutting-edge research of The University of Melbourne with the insights and capabilities of industry, startups, and government in Australia's premier innovation precinct. Held alongside the presentation of the Victorian 2025 Pearcey Entrepreneur Award, the Pearcey Oration will be delivered at a sit-down dinner at Melbourne Connect on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025.
