NDSs Value@TV infrastructure helps create new revenue streams for broadcasters
NDS Group plc, a News Corporation company, and the leading provider of conditional access systems and interactive applications for digital pay TV, will demonstrate its Value@TV advanced interactive TV solutions at Australias premier broadcasting event, Digital Media World 2002.

Leading broadcasters and channels such as Sky Sports, Discovery Networks Europe, Music Choice, MTV, Nickelodeon and QVCs The Shopping Channel in the UK have selected NDS to design their interactive services. In Australia and New Zealand, Sky Network Television (NZ), Network Ten, FOXTEL, Telstra and ABC are users of NDS technology.

Visitors to the event will be able to see how NDS technologies are meeting the growing demand for breakthrough interactive television in the broadcasting and broadband industries, and leading the delivery of exciting, revenue-generating interactive TV services to viewers worldwide.

Demonstrations on the stand will include:

Interactive applications: NDS will showcase its wide range of interactive TV applications currently on air with leading broadcasters such as CCTV (China), DIRECTV Latin America, Matav (Israel) and BSkyB (UK). These applications help TV operators and content providers to get the most out of their digital TV and content investment. Applications will include interactive sports, shopping, games, music, banking, stock, voting and wagering.

XTV advanced personal video recorder: NDS is also showing Sky+, the advanced personal TV system using XTV technology that BSkyB viewers are now enjoying in the UK. XTV, NDSs third-generation personalised TV technology provides personal video recorder (PVR) functionality to viewers so that they can watch what they want, when they want. With Sky+, viewers can watch a stored program from the hard disk in the set-top box, view highlights, or skip directly to a segment within a program all as an integral part of their regular Electronic Program Guide, also powered by NDS. XTV technology is an end-to-end content delivery, management and protection system that is convenient for viewers and is broadcaster and advertiser friendly.

NDS Core Middleware - NDS Core middleware is operating in over 2.5 million set-top-boxes (STBs) around the world. It has recently been chosen by SkyLife in Korea, China Network Systems (CNS) in Taiwan and Sichuan Provincial Network in China as their middleware of choice. Operators can run HTML and Java applications on todays low-end digital STBs requiring a very small memory footprint and therefore, have a cost-effective migration path to the full DVB MHP once MHP compatible STBs are an affordable proposition.

iPartners Program - NDS operates an active partner program in Australasia for content developers writing iTV applications using the NDS interactive infrastructure. NDS's iPartners Program was developed to support the interactive television community and to increase the deployment of iTV applications globally. Prospective partners are encouraged to meet key NDS staff at the stand throughout Digital Media World.

Members of the NDS iPartners Program are also invited to apply for The Neddies awards, a contest developed by NDS to recognise innovative interactive application infrastructure, design and development. Applications close 1 May 2002 and are to be created on the NDS Core middleware platform. Further information can be found at: <http://www.nds.com/partners/neddies_announcement.html>
