WORLD-FIRST AUSSIE SKINCARE FOR WOMEN EXPERIENCING MENOPAUSE

Announcement posted by Adoni Media 10 Sep 2025

In a world-first, an Australian company has launched a skincare range in direct response to scientific research linking menopause to changes to the skin’s microbiome.

An estimated six million Australian women are currently going through menopause, which can bring about complex changes to the skin's microbiome, creating dryness, redness, sensitivity, pigmentation changes, and loss of elasticity.

Emerging science confirms menopause affects more than hormones and collagen levels - it disrupts the skin's microbiome, that plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy complexion.

After 18 months of in-house microbiome research and development, Brisbane-based Nu Allumé has become the first skincare brand to formulate a range that supports women as their skin changes.

Nu Allumé Founder, Desré Tate, began researching the science behind why her skin began visibly changing after her own experience with perimenopause, aged 45.

"I couldn't find anything on the shelves that reflected what was happening to my skin. Skincare was stuck in an anti-ageing narrative, prioritising chasing youth over actual skin health," Mrs Tate said.

Perimenopause typically lasts seven years, but the shift in hormones and changes to the skin's microbiome can affect its balance, hydration, and resilience for the rest of a woman's life.

"I partnered with scientists to create something that truly responds to what's happening to the skin during menopause, targeting the underlying cause, not just the symptoms. This is a massive issue that's been largely ignored. Nu Allumé isn't about reversing time; it's about working with our changing biology to support healthy, balanced skin," she said.

Around 190,000 Australian women are expected to enter perimenopause in the next 12 months, and an estimated 1.2 billion women will be post-menopausal by 2030.

"We've developed four products - from cleanser to moisturiser - each designed to support the skin's microbiome. With two more in development, we're creating a simple, effective range that meets your skin exactly where it is today," Mrs Tate added.

"We've already had amazing feedback during testing; women tell us their skin feels calmer, more hydrated, and far less reactive. For many, it's the first time something has worked since their skin began to change due to menopause."
