Toowoomba’s MyProcedure Digitise Perioperative Medical Care Pathways - Improving Safety and Efficiency for Local Patients

Announcement posted by Personify Care 21 Oct 2025

Patients in Toowoomba preparing for surgery now have access to a safer, smoother pre-surgery experience, thanks to a partnership between local perioperative specialist care group MyProcedure and patient engagement platform Personify Care.

Toowoomba's MyProcedure offers an innovative collaborative care approach to assist patients preparing for and recovering from surgery at St Andrews Toowoomba Hospital and St Vincent's Private Hospital. Their Perioperative Medicine Specialists guide patients through their surgical journey and provide access to medical specialists and nursing support who will work with surgeons to help patients complete pre-surgery tasks, and proactively monitor them for a smooth recovery.

Instead of lengthy phone calls or paperwork, patients will now complete secure, online health assessments ahead of their procedure. This shift means potential risks can be identified earlier, perioperative medical specialists have accurate information well in advance, and patients are well prepared for surgery.

Dr Jeremy Fernando, Specialist Anaesthetist and Intensive Care Specialist at MyProcedure, said:  "Our patients want a smoother experience, and our hospitals want fewer cancellations and complications. By going digital, we're making it easier for patients to prepare while improving safety for everyone involved.  We are also able to collect post-operative outcome data right from the patient."

The partnership reflects a growing focus on bringing innovative, clinically proven digital solutions into regional healthcare settings.

By digitising the patient intake and triage process, MyProcedure is improving both operational efficiency and the patient experience at the local hospitals.

The new pathway is designed to deliver measurable improvements across several areas.

Efficiency will be lifted by cutting down the time and cost spent on manual phone-based assessments. Staff who previously spent hours chasing information will now be freed to focus on direct patient care.

As Sarah Carfrae, Practice Manager at MyProcedure noted, "The less time we spend chasing paperwork, the more time we can spend caring for patients."

For patients, the experience will feel significantly easier.

Online assessments can be completed at a time that suits them, with personalised reminders and information helping them feel more prepared.

"When patients arrive knowing what to expect and having had their health risks checked ahead of time, the entire surgical journey becomes safer and smoother," said Dr Jeremy Fernando.

"Above all, the initiative is about improving safety and outcomes for the Toowoomba community. Patients will arrive better informed, clinicians will have the right data at the right time, and procedures can proceed with greater confidence."
