The Pearcey Foundation, in partnership with UNSW Sydney and RACE for 2030, is holding a full-day summit in Sydney on 9 October 2025 exploring the transformation of Australia's energy system as the nation drives towards net zero. The 2025 Australia 4.0 Summit is the culmination of three years of national discussions incorporating thousands of participants drawn from industry, academia, regulators, utilities and innovators.
"Australia is leading the world in the adoption of renewables and, in this brief moment of history, we have the opportunity to solve our own challenges. In transforming our own energy systems, we can solve problems for the whole world - with the flow-on effect of creating an economic boom for Australia that will be sustained for decades," said Dr Ian Oppermann, chair of Pearcey Foundation's Australia 4.0 Committee.
The Summit will feature an opening address from Emeritus Professor Roy Green AM, on the energy transformation's impact on productivity. Professor Green is Special Innovation Advisor at the University of Technology Sydney and is currently leading the statutory review of the Energy Industry Jobs Plan for the Australian Government's Net Zero Economy Authority.
The day's core agenda comprises five key debates, each featuring a panel of industry experts and leaders:
- Terry Lampard, National President, Electric Energy Society of Australia
- James Seymour, CEO, C4NET
- Scott Brownlaw, Strategic Initiatives Manager, Standards Australia
- Jamie Burrage, General Manager, Sydney Division, Engineers Australia
- Prof. Neil Horrocks, Deputy Chief Research Officer, RACE for 2030
The closing address will be delivered by the Hon Matt Kean, former energy minister and treasurer of New South Wales, and now a director at Wollemi Capital and chair of the Climate Change Authority.
"The goal of our Summit is to refine and ratify five recommendations of strategic interest that will help guide our nation towards an efficient, effective, sustainable and profitable future energy system," said Dr Oppermann.
