Transport Training Centre takes Mid-Comp's Odyssey to help raise industry standards

Announcement posted by Mid-Comp International 08 Apr 2009

The Institute of Applied Logistics – Transport Training Centre (TTC) of South Australia is joining leading educational organisations in using the Odyssey intelligent ERP software solution from Mid-Comp International for teaching logistics students.

According to TTC ‘s Supply Chain Program Manager, Ron Horne, while many participants in the logistics industry operate very effectively, there are opportunities for improvement.  He is confident that Odyssey will help to raise standards.

He said: “Supply chain systems are a grossly under-utilised part of the industry at present because there is a big gap in understanding these solutions and their ability to increase efficiency.

“At TTC we focus on people, processes and systems.  We endeavour to show our students best practice and show them how they can advance in the transport industry.  Odyssey will provide the tools to show them what industry-strength supply chain software can help  to achieve, and help the students themselves to achieve.”

The Transport Training Centre’s course called ‘A Primer of Logistics’  is a practical, industry-based introduction to the subject that enables students to see where they are at present, and where they want to go.

“We tell them ‘we can do it better’ and Odyssey is one of the tools we will use to do that,” says Ron, who has been running similar programs for eight years for different organisations.

The present 12-month program has two streams: a cadetship for 18 to 19-year-olds and a night class to take existing supply chain supervisors and managers to the next levels.  Ron plans to introduce Odyssey in July/August when a new program begins.

He said: “We will link the software into problem-solving and group activities.  It’s an excellent application that will give students hands-on practical experience to supplement their theoretical instruction.”

Ron expressed thanks to Mid-Comp International whose people he said had “bent over backwards” in negotiating the Odyssey deal through the company’s Education Initiatives Program.
