NBN sets agenda at CeBIT Australia 2009 Global Conferences

Announcement posted by CeBit Australia 09 Apr 2009

SYDNEY, Australia – 9 April 2009: The Federal Government plan to take control of the development and building of a $43 billion National Broadband Network (NBN) ensures CeBIT Australia 2009’s Global Conference Series will be the most important such event of the year.

CeBIT Australia 2009 organiser, Hannover Fairs Australia, welcomed the Government’s commitment to the network, saying it would lay the foundation for Australia’s long-term economic prosperity.

We are very excited that Government has massively over-delivered on its election promise about this network,” Hannover Fairs Australia Managing Director Jackie Taranto said.

The National Broadband infrastructure will create enormous opportunities for the ICT sector in this country and drive productivity improvement across the broader economy.”

This project will help secure Australia's future economic security. As a long-term investor in the ICT industry in Australia, CeBIT has an active interest in the health of the sector and is pleased that the Rudd Government has put the country back on the path towards technological and economic security.

It also means our Global Conference program this year is one nobody can afford to miss if they want to be informed about our future telecommunications landscape.”

Access @ CeBIT Australia 2009, to be held on May 12 at Sydney’s Darling Harbour Convention Centre, was devised to tackle the full range of telecommunications issues from broadband infrastructure and policy to the effective use of new generation telecommunications systems by business and government, and the ramifications of the Government ‘s NBN decision will now take centre stage.

Access 2009 features two streams, one focused entirely on policy and regulatory issues, and the other on practical business communications product and service issues that will make businesses more productive. This event sold out in 2008.

Keynote speakers at the Infrastructure, Policy and Practice stream of Access include:

  • Acacia Bid Chairman Doug Campbell

  • Telstra Executive Director of Regulatory Affairs Tony Warren

  • Optus’ Director of Corporate and Government Affairs, Maha Krishnapillai

  • Competitive Carriers Coalition Executive Director, David Forman

  • iiNet Managing Director Michael Malone

  • Senator Kate Lundy, Australian Government

The Access 2009 Business Ready Communications Solutions stream includes sessions on practical issues covering topics including Unified Communications, Voice over IP (VoIP), Collaboration and Wireless Solutions. Speakers will include:

  • IPscape Managing Director Simon Burke

  • iPrimus Telecom General Manager Roger Nicoll

  • BridgeWave Strategic and International Accounts Vice-President Jim McGowan

Our speaker line-up for Access was developed before the NBN decision was announced, and has proved amazingly prescient,” Ms Taranto said.

It would be hard to gather anywhere a better informed and well-equipped speaker line-up to discuss the implications of the NBN for Australia, and its potential to drive business growth and engagement in the years ahead.

CeBIT Australia 2009, the largest business technology event in the region, will be held from May 12-14 2009 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour. The event is expected to attract more than 35,000 business visitors.

This is going to be a very tough year for much of the economy, and we can say with certainty that for some companies, survival will require urgent action that goes beyond the knee-jerk chopping of budgets and staff,” Ms Taranto said.

It is the companies that are able to adapt this next wave of internet technology to get through the tough times that will be best positioned to prosper when the economy picks up – as it always does.”
