[PRESS RELEASE] On-farm genetic advancement field day for cattle producers in Central Queensland next month
Announcement posted by Writers Who 22 Oct 2025
CAPELLA, QLD - Vytelle Australia is inviting Queensland cattle breeders to an action-packed Genetic Advancement Field Day on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, at "Craigywarren" near Capella in Central Queensland.
The free event will showcase practical applications of advanced reproductive technologies and feed efficiency measurement systems designed to help producers maximise genetic potential and boost production performance.
Hosted at the Donaldson family's property, home to Donaldson Beefmasters and Medway Droughtmasters, the field day will feature live demonstrations, business seminars, and hands-on learning opportunities with industry experts.
"This is a unique opportunity for Queensland cattle breeders to see innovation in action on a working property," said Andrew Donoghue, Regional Director for Vytelle Australia/NZ. "We're bringing together reproductive technology, individual animal performance data, and real-world results to show producers how they can make measurable genetic gains in their own herds."
The day's program includes a live demonstration of Vytelle's hormone-free ovum pick-up (OPU) process, behind-the-scenes insights into the IVF process with Vytelle ADVANCE™, and a walk-through of the Vytelle SENSE™ feed efficiency system operating on live cattle at Craigywarren.
"Feed represents about 70% of the input costs in cattle production, so increasing feed efficiency is essential to maintain profitability," Donoghue said.
Brenten Donaldson of Donaldson Beefmasters at Craigywarren will discuss the role of Beefmaster cattle in Australia's beef industry and share practical insights from implementing advanced genetic technologies in his breeding program.
"We're excited to open our doors and show other breeders what's possible when you combine proven genetics with modern reproductive technologies and performance data," said Donaldson.
Jane Armstrong from Insight Repro will present on growing cattle enterprises through strategic use of reproductive technologies. Attendees will also tour the Insight Repro facility to observe semen collection, AI programs, pregnancy testing, and storage operations.
"Advanced reproductive technologies are no longer just for large commercial operations," said Armstrong. "We're demonstrating how Central Queensland producers can access and benefit from these systems to accelerate their breeding programs."
Rod Linke, Strategic Account Manager for Vytelle Northern Australia, said the field day addresses a growing demand from seedstock and commercial producers seeking practical guidance on genetic improvement strategies.
"Producers want to see these technologies working in real-world conditions on properties like theirs," said Linke. "This field day brings together all the pieces - from collecting the genetics through IVF, to measuring individual animal performance, to making selection decisions that drive profitability."
The event runs from 8:00am to 3:00pm and includes morning tea, lunch, and afternoon refreshments. Registration is free but required by 1 November to assist with catering and seating arrangements.
