Industry expert warns electricity and home insurance prices set to skyrocket - why solar batteries will help save homeowners
Announcement posted by Invigorate PR 12 Nov 2025
With the Federal Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program driving a national solar battery boom, thousands of Australians are rushing to install systems but confusion about cost, performance and safety continues to circulate.
According to Steven Yu, CEO of Aussie Solar Batteries Group, many of the things people think they know about solar batteries are simply untrue.
"Solar batteries are one of the safest, smartest and most cost-effective energy investments you can make," Yu said.
"They're designed to last for decades but misinformation is still stopping some households from making the switch."
Below, Yu busts the top myths about home solar batteries and explains what Australians really need to know.
Myth 1: Home batteries are too expensive and never pay for themselves
Not true. While solar batteries were once seen as a luxury, prices have dropped dramatically and government rebates have made them more affordable than ever.
"With the Federal Government now covering a significant portion of the cost through the Cheaper
Home Batteries Program, payback periods are much shorter," Yu said.
"Households save money every month by storing their solar power instead of buying electricity from the grid. Over time, the system more than pays for itself. Homes for sale with quality solar battery are considered more desirable than properties without sustainable energy sources.
"Moreover, rental properties with a home solar battery are also considered highly rentable and attract higher rent than other properties without the technology."
Myth 2: You can't take your solar battery when you move
While many people assume batteries are permanently fixed, that's not entirely accurate.
"Yes, you can take it with you," Yu said.
"But uninstalling, transporting and reinstalling is expensive. With current rebates, it's usually smarter to leave it and start fresh with a new system at your next home."
Myth 3: Smaller batteries are cheaper and better value
Smaller batteries may cost less upfront but they wear out faster and can become a false economy.
"If you constantly drain your battery, you shorten its lifespan," Yu explained.
"A larger-capacity battery cycles more efficiently, lasts longer and delivers better long-term value. When it comes to home storage, bigger really is better."
Myth 4: Solar batteries are a fire risk
Despite media headlines, solar batteries are extremely safe when installed and used properly.
"Modern batteries are built with advanced safety systems and thermal management," Yu said.
"Most incidents are not caused by manufacturing faults, they happen due to user behaviour, such as physical damage, improper charging, lack of ventilation or DIY installation. Installed by professionals, these systems are incredibly safe."
Myth 5: All solar batteries are the same
There's a big difference between certified, reputable systems and cheap, unregulated imports.
"Not all batteries are equal," Yu explained.
"High-quality systems have stronger safety mechanisms, better warranties and higher efficiency. Always choose accredited installers and trusted brands that meet Australian safety standards."
Myth 6: Solar batteries are plug-and-play DIY systems
Some homeowners think batteries are easy to install, but this misconception can be dangerous.
"Solar batteries store enough energy to power a home or seriously injure you if mishandled," Yu said.
"They are not DIY appliances. Installation and connection must always be done by licensed electricians and Clean Energy Council-accredited installers."
The truth: safe, affordable and here to stay
Yu said solar batteries are reshaping how Australians power their homes; safely, sustainably and economically.
"Solar batteries are no longer futuristic," he said.
"They're affordable, reliable and a key part of Australia's energy future. Installed by experts and used responsibly, they save money, reduce emissions and power homes with confidence."
