Small Business Ghost Tours Australia hits its 28th year, Remaining the Longest Running Historic Cemetery Ghost Tour Operator in the World!

Announcement posted by Historic Australia 05 Feb 2026

Ghost Tours Australia's owner and creator, Jack Sim started guiding on his own last century in 1998 and since then he's turned his passion for history into a cultural-heritage tourism business celebrating 28 years established. It remains prominent in both the Ipswich and Brisbane regions. Jack previously worked with the Director of Prosecutions Office - including in Ipswich.

There are numerous reasons why this established tourism business has lasted through many turbulent times, including the ongoing "temporary closure" of Boggo Road Gaol (Jail), the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn in society creating it difficult for small businesses.

Jack said, "the tours, books and experiences we offer are quite diverse - In Brisbane and Ipswich guides undertake true crime tours to places like the site of the Whiskey Au Go Go and ghost tours in the dark at Toowong Cemetery, Ipswich Cemetery and Goodna Cemetery. At Boggo Road we took guided tours behind bars and cellblocks. In Charters Towers my guides show visitors, school students and locals the history and ghosts of gold in north Queensland. We also teach the hands-on skill of gold panning at the Venus Battery."

Is it because of his 1939 Studebaker President Hearse? Or is it some of the stories told are real experiences of life and death from his family and friends, and that, nothing is AI generated.

"My guides learn from scripts I write using my mind to distil enormous amounts of research into stories that my customers will enjoy. The research that goes into my tours, books and experiences begins with interviews with former prisoners and criminals, detectives and police, funeral directors and undertakers, gravediggers, historians and locals.

Old ghost stories, personal recollections, myths and legends were told by people, not machines, and I try to save and share them", exclaimed Jack.

Ghost Tours Australia's parent business Historic Australia employs many guides who educate and entertain locals and visitors through storytelling, several have been highly reviewed. He is very proud of his team.

"My tours aim to share stories with people that tell Queensland's story - the good and the bad." Jack stated.

The hard work of Jack and his team is a testament to his ongoing tourism business operating for many years and continues to be loved by tourists and locals alike. To support Jack's small business and explore Brisbane's haunted history.
